Please forgive this post as it may be blatantly obvious to most, but as I'm new to this game and only understand little bits, what does the amount of money with penalty after it, mean in a race description.
Picked my very first winner all on my own on saturday, it was 4.45 Newbury. Self defense 4/6, but from little acorns...... :yikes:

I think you must be looking at a conditions race. They alter the size of the Prize money in these races acording to age, sex, experience. The trainer has to think it is worth while putting a class horse in to a weak race for little prize money.
So in theory the race is fair because the conditions keep the class horses away.
Well thats my understanding of it anyway. Others can explain it better.
