E-Mail probs

I recently had major problems with virus's and other such, As a result I lost everything including internet connection and e-mail accounts. Having recently purchased an anti-virus i've tried to sort my e-mail, I have still got my old address but every time i log on I am confronted with an error box saying

Unable to logon to the server using Secure Password Authentication. Account: 'pop.virgin.net', Server: 'mail.virgin.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

Is there anything i can do?? Does this make sense to anyone??

In IE.

Go to TOOL>ACCOUNTS>MAIL>PROPERTIES>SERVERS

& untick the "Secure Password Authentication. Account" box
