What should I look for and is there any point if I'm spending less than £500?

Depends what your looking for, mine has 23x zoom, and after using it I was glad I never got a x10.

Got mine for £600 in Singapore, but it does perfect DVD, clear at any zoom, and has a zoom mic as well for listening in on people a distance away :)

Also looks cooler than the 'box' ones which is important :D

Try and get a triple CCD if you can with 15+ zoom, these are good as well.

In answer to your question, you get what you pay for.

Don't buy a DVD RW camcorder, the technology has yet to advance.
