Sorry for the newbie question but when given a racing tip sometimes it says NB after the horse - what does this mean?

Thanks

No Balls..... :D

Only joking, it means Next Best - tipster gives his nap of the day and this is his next best tip. :)

I don't even know what nap means...I mean is it an abbreviation for something or....I know what the word is used for but the origin of it eludes me

Nap is an abbreviation of Napoleon.

I've read a few different explanations as to why this is used for your best bet. One stems from a card game and one from coinage apparently.

Yep, comes from a card game in which your best hand was known as a NAP hand. :)

NB is from the latin 'nota bene', which means 'next best'.

Its an acronym for a eunuch , meaning ¨no balls¨ :laugh

By the way Borealis - your nearly right....but note bene translated from the latin is note well .......not next best :yikes:
