Can some one tell me, are the six races used for the place pot the first six races on the card at each meeting?

Yes, and the last four for the Quadpot.

The quadpot is the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th race at the meeting.

Not always the last 4, as some meetings have more than 6 races.

Learn something new every day, I always thought it was the last four, irrespective of the number of races on the card.
