Covering your bet

Would appreciate some pointers on how to 'cover' your bet on the exchanges. I read some posts of people backing (or laying) one result then being able to back the opposite result so no matter what happens, they win. Can someone give me some practical examples of how to do this??

U can only do it if your laying something youre confident will drift and then back it when it does, or if you back something your confident will be backed then lay the shorter odds later...i think
