Slow Pc...so Frustrating

My PC is very slow tonight...it takes ages to open links etc. What is causing this and how can I get it to improve. I have done a disk cleanup ang got rid of temp internet files. I keep on getting a pop up about spyware programs. Is there maybe spy programs downloaded on my PC??? and how do I get rid of them safely.

1. Firewall
2. Virus Checker
3. Spyware Remover

All three are available for free if you just search around. Such as AVG Anti-Virus and Ad-Aware SE-Personal for spyware etc.....

Ah much better this morning....removed 10 unwanted things with spyware...one something valled bot worm. I have stinger virus soft ware. Is this sufficient or should I try something else???
