For those that don't know FITS is the RAW image file that hubble, and many telescope CCD's supply their data in.
NASA give a free plugin for Photoshop & Elements (it is also supposed to work on other software, check Google), and then download the RAW data from their Hubble site and have a play around.

You get to see that these lovely pics you see on the news need a lot of work, but the results make it worth the effort.
