Since recently updating XP with service pack 2, when I try to log on to Betfair a message asks me if I wish to continue as the site is not secure.

When I then logged in I noticed that there was no padlock symbol at the bottom of the browser. How worried should I be, is this site now at risk from attack?

I had a similar worry Bryon. I was assured by them this is normal and is fine. I still get that little warning box and have had it about six months. I take no notice of it now.

Insecure Site pop-up

Some users have mentioned concerns about a Security warning that pops up when entering the betfair site. This will be evident where users have upgraded their Windows XP operating system to Service Pack 2 (SP2). Because of Microsoft’s changes to tighten security, this pop-up will now appear whenever you access betfair and some other sites that have similar security settings to ours. Technically, we send packets of information in https (secure) format and it is returned in http (not secure) format, and Windows XP SP2 notifies you of the change. This is entirely expected and your security is NOT at risk. Do NOT alter your Windows security settings (which will affect your security). This is a pop-up that will continue to appear, please continue to use betfair in the knowledge that you are as secure as ever.
