I`ve been advised to get ANTI-VIR and have registered and can download the software as a home user free.. but it warns me that i already have a symantec anti-v installed and this will clash.. so I need to choose. Before I uninstall Norton/Symantec, can someone reassure me that it`s OK and that anti-vir is fine ? Thanks..man at cmputer shop says Norton no longer as good as it was and it lets things through.. still, just checking. :hearty

Can't say I've heard of Anti-Vir - but if it's the company at this website (http://www.free-av.com ) It doesn't exactly breed confidence, looks like an 11 y.o knocked it up during playtime on one of the school computers.

I always use Trend Internet Security - but most people here use Panda (from what I remember). Probably better off going with Trend or Panda.

Free is nice, but you get what you pay for.

No, it isn`t that, it comes from avast.com.. you pay for the business and pro use but home use on one PC is free... I don`t know Panda.. how do I get to it to look ?

Panda is at http://www.pandasoftware.com/ - I think (again, not totally sure) that Keith uses Panda.

Avast seem to be ok. A few of the people that I do Tech Support for use Avast. I can't honestly say that I know much about Avast though.

He does and so do I. It's very good. When it auto updates, the software detects itself trying to connect to the internet and asks you if you want to allow it. Brilliant.:D

Should be ok Susan. Another one to try out (I say 'try out', it's blooming awesome) is PC Cillin Internet Security ( www.trendmicro.com )

You can get OEM Panda for around £3 :), search for Microdirect, or Watford Savastore sell them a little dearer.

My computer man never rated Norton. Always uses AVG/ Spybot.

AVG is no good with DOS attacks, and misses some trojans.

My neighbour has just run a check with Norton nothing found. Then downloaded AVG did a check and found trojan horses. All computers are different and some things work better on some than others. Several people I know have moved on from Norton.
