The other day one of Keith's tips said to bet a place on the exchanges to guarantee a 16 runner pay out, ie 4th place pays. So does this mean if you bet a place and 16 runners become 15 or less, you still get paid for the 4th place?

On Betfair, yes

How about if you place the place after the non runners are announced?

the ammount of places never change (from thoes stated in the rules). if there is a NR a reduction factor will be applied.

also - if the ammount of runners is equal to the ammount of places offered market is void.

That's the bonus with Betfair. The other day you could bet Place only in a 7 runner race the first 3 :)

That's why I asked. Pearl's A Singer was 3rd yesterday in a 7 runner race after 1 non runner, so I could add it to my huge profiting place figures in my trial Ooo

How about if you place the place after the non runners are announced?I believe the underlying basis is the number of runners at the stage of the overnight declarations. If there were 16 then - in a handicap - there are 4 places paid whenever you place your bet. (This partly explains the occasionally huge differences between Betfair place odds and those at the bookies.) But it's easy to check, if you click on the "rules" tab of any Betfair place-betting screen, the number of places paid is displayed at the top of the text.

Time to take advantage. The 2.05 is down to 7 runners, I've gone Bahamian Pirate for the place 2/1

Your not actually taking advantage of anything really, as the market then gives the true odds for the first 3 in a 7 runner race, which are lower than 3 from 8.

just my oppinion but, finding long priced horses in 16+ runner races, where they dont have a chance of winning, but have a chance of comming 2-4 (at quite long odd's) may be worth a look.

Dutching Place only on the outsiders can be profitable.
