Hi All
It seems that I can quite easily make a small profit following other peoples selections :D but when it comes to try and work some sort of system myself I quickly come unstuck :yikes: and begin to realise just how much my knowledge is lacking. :( I know by now that I should be able to answer this but......

Can somebody define the following for me:

Flat, Hurdle, Chase and fences.

Are for example maiden stakes chases, over hurdles or over fences?

Would the same apply for claiming stakes, Nursery or amatuer riders H/cap races?

For that matter are all handicap races (except AW) over fences?

thanks in advance.......Slosh

Flat - no jumps
Hurdle - race over hurdles, obstacles smaller than fences
(Steeple)Chase - race over large obstacles (fences)

Nursery - 2yo handicap race

Handicaps - race in which the weight carried by the horse is set according to its rating rather than race conditions. Occurs on flat as well as jumps so you can get flat handicaps, handicap hurdles and handicap chases.

It's worth investing in something like the Channel 4 A-Z of racing for stuff like this
