just logged on and found 6 icons on my desktop.its got to some kind of adware, the names of the icons are, find a date, tune my pc, watch live tv, cellphone ringtones, casino online, and my antivirus update.i've tried a system restore to yesterday, but when i restarted only my old icons were on the screen, but after 2 or 3 minutes the alien icons were back.ive tried an adware scan but that done nothing.
obviously i can put them in the recycle bin or shred them, but there has got to be a root problem.
the only clue i can give anyone is that my daughter used phontastic to send me a free text message to my mobile phone.

Check your add/remove programs some adaware programs take it as permission to install themselves if you DON'T tell them not too :yikes: you may find that you can uninstall it through the control pannel.

It gets a bit complicated after that.

It's a trojan or Browser Help Object. Use your virus checker (or an online version) to remove it
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.betterinternet.html

And once you've removed it, make sure you turn of the option to allow Third Party Extensions in Explorer...Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, scroll to the browsing section, and make sure enable third-party extensions is unchecked.

It's nothing to do with phontastic or mobile phones - it's something you've installed from the web, probably by clicking on one of those big pop-up boxes that says "Click here to repair Windows" or "Click in yellow area at the top of Internet Explorer to install this super toolbar" or "Click here for massive amounts of free porn"

Yahoo and Google toolbars are pretty safe, but I do think the I-mesh one is a nastier one, best to be well rid of that!
