I got a little pocket diary from boylesports and it has a map of the UK and Ireland, showing all the tracks.

It says that there is an All Weather track at a place called 'Great Leighs'
(It is a bit north of London, south of Newmarket)

I thought Britain had only got 3 AW tracks, and I don't recall ever placing a bet on a race here. Can someone enlighten me?

Thanks

It's a new AW track in Essex due to open later this year.

First new track in this country for a long, long time

How anything in Essex can be "Great" remains to be seen.

Not a patch on this one!

I think the main roads leading out of Essex could be great... :)

Well, Im looking forward to it opening, as im trying to specialise in the AW.

I Hope to visit one of them this year (I never been to any racing in Britain).
Any reccommendations as to which AW track is best?

Hopefully I will have some great lays at great leighs :)

to be honnest i quite like the idea of AW, same ground all year round etc..... should in theory be good for systems.

but the main problem i have with it is the crap bandit / poor quality racing they have on it. great leighs - i have heard (not sure where from) will end up like wolves on a saturday night :yikes: .

Best AW track is Lingfield without a doubt. It stages the best quality AW (at the moment) and its by far and away the most pleasant. As an added bonus you can take some cash off Baz Dennis.

I am as suspicious of the official going at AW tracks as I am of it at turf tracks though. I suspect Standard covers a fairly broad spectrum of actual goings were you to look at race times and speed ratings

Its not as affected by rain as turf, some is oily and some has a high proportion of plastic and rags so repel water. Its nothing like the difference between wet and dry sand on the beach.

Horse rates and AW track seem to be unrelated. I thought the draw might be important. However a lot of the AW races also have very close rated horses runing in the same race too so picking out winners and losers on AW is ****** tough

Hi Marcus. I have read quite a bit about the draw, but have not managed to make any money out of it. I cant really remember, but i read somewhere that if you back the fav out of one particular stall blindly, it proved profitable over the past 3 years. Im a bit scetchy on what track etc. but Ill fish it out later when I get home.

The draw stats I have show that there are quite a few stalls profitable on the AW tracks over certain distances. The top one is stall 7 over 2m at Wolves. Stall 13 over 1m5f at Lingfield is worth looking at to.

Interestingly these are over distances I wouldn't expect the draw to make as much difference

This is what I was thinking of:

(Southwell - 5f Races - from ATR website)

Historically, low-drawn horses have been favoured- and certainly underbet — on Southwell’s straight 5f track. Since the track was relaid, low numbers have continued to do marginally better than high numbers. Stall 1, always worthy of consideration at this distance (shows a profit backed blindly in handicaps going back as far as 1998), has recorded 4 wins from 18 runs in handicaps since the track was relaid, and stalls 1-3 have combined to produce 8 wins from 60 runs and a profit of 1pt, compared with stalls 10 and upwards producing just 3 wins from 68 runs and a loss of 58pts. Analysed in both handicaps and non-handicaps, stall 1 has a record of 11 wins from 58 runs on the relaid track and a profit of 38pts.

I have no idea how significant it is because I don't have enough data

My best count on the Draw is as follows

Wolverhampton
12 runners
7f distance
Handicap False
Claiming False
Banded False
Draw 1
Count of winners 10.00

Other Draw winning draw position counts for the above are

1 10.00
2 5.00
3 7.00
4 2.00
5 3.00
6 1.00
7 1.00
8 5.00
9 4.00
10 1.00
11 2.00

However don't confuse it with 12 runners in a 7f Handicap race as the results are

1 2.00
2 4.00
3 5.00
4 3.00
5 2.00
6 5.00
7 3.00
8 6.00
9 2.00
10 3.00
11 2.00
12 5.00
