My Father is typing 1000 into the Excel cells and then presses enter. The result is 10. Type 1009 and the result is 10.09. Another words it Divides by 100 what ever you type in.

The % key is off. When you turn it on the 10 becomes 1000%

Have tried uninstalling Office and reinstalling but the problem still remains.

Have tried a system restore but it says there have been no chages.

When you look at the undo typing it asks if you want to undo the typing of 1000:doh

Have look carefully at all the menu option and can see nothing.

Bet you cant solve this VERY REAL and ANOYING problem.

format cell.
select number.
then how you want it to be displayed (ie, decimal places. 1000 or 1000.0 etc)

The cell formatting is not set to % then?

Does it do this in every cell of every sheet? What about if he opens a new blank spreadsheet?

Applies to new Blank Sheet -yes - reinstalled office in order to try and get rid of it.

You formatted the cells as TEXT?

John

Either that or you multiplied every whole number entered by 100.

Sounds to me like he managed to set the Fixed Decimals option...if memory serves me right, it's in Tools, Options, Edit. Check the Fixed Decimals option then use the drop-down list to determine how many decimal places to use.

To be honest, I'm not even sure why this "feature" is provided except in those very rare instances when you might not have a numeric keypad on your keyboard.
