View Full Version : Using Party Poker

Could one of you techies please explain the following & if there is anything I could possibly do to prevent/clear it?

When I use the Party Poker software (old & new), my machine initially works perfectly.
Everything is fine for about an hour, but if I am still in the game after this amount of time, my machine starts to periodically 'freeze' for a few seconds to start with, and then gets increasingly worse.
It gets to the stage where I have to shut down Party Poker & re-launch it & re-join the game.
This improves things for a few minutes but soon it is 'freezing' again every few seconds.
A total system re-boot clears everything, and I can carry on playing trouble-free for another hour before the problem starts again.
Obviously this is giving me the reputation of being an excessively slow player to the others in the game.
I only get this problem with Party Poker.
Bet365, Betfair, William Hill, Corals & Pacific all work absolutely fine.

It would seem to me that it is some type of RAM problem.
My OS is Windows ME and have 256M RAM.

Any ideas?

Regards

Ada.

Shortage of resources........way tooooooooooo little memory. Buy a 512MB stick for £25

I already have a 512MB stick.
Will it improve my machines RAM resource and save me having to install new RAM?
I am assuming you mean proper plug-in memory RAM, not the portable sticks that have replaced floppy disks.
I know it's easy to do but I'm a lazy sod by nature and don't want the 'hassle' of taking the cover off and plugging new RAM in if I can help it. If there's a chance of messing it up, you can put money on it that I will!
I'll probably end up going and buying a new machine. It's less hassle.

I'm afraid you're going to have to bite the bullet Ada and get under the hood - it'll be well worth it and make a huge difference to the speed your PC runs at! It should take no more than 5-10 minutes to install more RAM

Why not get a new PC?

PCWorld do good deals. You can buy a 2 year out of date laptop, for 10X the price on Ebay, and a £140 extended warranty, that they'll never honour......can you tell which thicko brother-in-law of mine done that? :laugh

Thanks Keith & BigC,

I've taken your advice
I've been under the hood and installed another 512MB of RAM.
Have now got 640MB in total.
Should make a noticeable difference I hope.
