OK everyone,
You know how this works...
For Game 2 to start.....
I require 14 of you to post here to pick your Thunderballs please.
You may choose your own Thunderball number (1 - 14) if you wish.
This will obviously be accepted on a first come first served basis.
If you choose not to pick your own number then I will allocate you one once 14 people have posted.
Deadline: Midnight Tuesday 7th March.
(The eSafe has been upgraded and its combination now consists of 7 digits.)
Good Luck
Ada.

TheGoodGuy
9th March 2006, 01:05
Iron Chris,
Thanks for your kind gesture, but it's not the solution I'm afraid.
As Vegy stated earlier, in Game 1 there were initially more people interested than there were Thunderballs available.
This time round there were only 8 interested.
The reason I insist there are 14 different people needed to start the game is purely to get things off to a level start.
Nobody has an 'advantage' of owning more numbers than anyone else at this stage.
Once the first draw is done, then the idea is to increase your 'advantage' by answering the questions to earn yourselves another number.
Giving 7 people 2 numbers each at the beginning is not on I'm afraid, as there is little or no incentive to want to compete for the spare number after a wrongly chosen combination, as you still have another chance with your 2nd number by doing absolutely nothing.
People are obviously going to lose interest if they don't get a chance to have a go....
...or maybe the game goes on too long for people to maintain a long term interest in following the game to its conclusion.
One of the above presumably must apply..
I personally think that the potential prize money that could be won (or lost) would have been a sufficient 'carrot' to tempt people to have a go in a second game.
So I think that the only solution (if you want me to start another game) is to persuade Vegy to prostitute himself with the Forum members to get 14 different players to want to play over however many weeks it may take to produce a winner.
So guys and/or Vegy....
...its over to you now....
...provide me with 14 interested players and I will be happy to start a new game.
Ada.
PS.. I have donated Silax's £25 winnings from Game 1 to CRISIS as requested.
I am still waiting for a receipt so I can post it as proof of payment.

mathare
9th March 2006, 18:06
I will give this a go please Ada... not sure what i have to do though? You pick (or get allocated) a number from 1-14. If the Thunderball in the Lotto Thunderball draw matches your number you have a chance to guess the 7-digit combination to Ada's safe containing an amount of cash. The amount in the safe varies depending on certain things happening in the Thunderball draw but don't worry too much about that.
If your ball is picked and you get chosen to post a selection you post a 7-digit number and Ada tells everyone how many numbers you got right and how many were in the right place in the combination.
Oh, but if your number is chosen you have to fight to reclaim it. Ada will post a question in this area of the forum and the first person to post the right answer gets the ball. People can hold up to 2 Thunderballs at once.
That's it really
TheGoodGuy
10th March 2006, 00:27
Many thanks to Vegy & Mathare for your efforts in promoting the game.
You both seem to have done a better job than me in recruiting some interest!!
So...
...it looks like we only need 2 more players for Game 2 to proceed.
If 2 more interested players post on this thread before midnight Friday, then we can start Game 2 with Saturday evening's Thunderball draw.
Please read the Game 2 RULES thread if you are unsure what the game entails, but Mathare has given an excellent breakdown of the elements of the main game above. Cheers Mat.

Well then,
14 of you have now expressed an 'interest'
It would seem we have a bit of a mix of people who who are going to play...
...some who are genuinely up for it...
...some who are just making the numbers up to get the game going and/or aren't really sure what they have entered into...
...and possibly Sparkyminer who maybe doesn't even know he is playing yet...
...(The only reply I've seen him post on this thread is one apologising for not having seen the thread earlier.....no hint of actually wanting to play!!
Let's hope he is happy to be included.)
Watch out for a new thread....Open Ada's eSafe - Game 2 - IN PLAY, ready for Draw 1 Saturday evening.

Any rule breaking will result in the prize money being immediately reduced by £14.
Which FOUR of the following media reports published over recent years are TRUE as opposed to being April Fools hoaxes?
A: Bank Teller Fees
In 1999 a Connecticut-based bank announced that due to rising costs it would be forced to charge a $5 fee every time a customer visited a live teller. The bank promised that the fee would actually help to improve the quality of customer service.
B: Marathon Runner.
Japanese long-distance runner Kimo Nakajimi entered the London Marathon in 1983 but got confused by a translation of the rules and thought he had to run for 26 days, not 26 miles. He was discovered, after the race was well over, out running in the English countryside.
C: Carrots reclassified as a fruit
In 1979 officials in the European Union confirmed what many have long suspected: that carrots are not, in fact, a vegetable, but are actually a variety of fruit. The officials urged that appropriate reclassification efforts should begin at once.
D: Change To Addressing British Mail
In 1977 the BBC gave airtime to Tom Jackson, General Secretary of the British Union of Post Office Workers. Mr. Jackson was up in arms about a recent proposal that the British mail adopt the German method of addressing envelopes in which the house number is written after the name of the road, not before it (i.e. Downing Street 10, instead of 10 Downing Street). Jackson spoke at great length about the enormous burden this change would place upon postal employees, insisting that "Postal workers would be furious because it would turn upside-down the way we have learned to sort." His comments elicited an immediate reaction from the audience, many of whom phoned up to voice their support for Jackson's campaign.
E: Chicken Manure-Powered Electrical Plant
In 1991 Mitsubishi Bank contacted venture capitalists about an exciting new investment opportunity: Fibropower, a 14-megawatt generating plant fuelled entirely by chicken poop. Finally, the investment prospectus boasted, a way to put unwanted chicken manure to good use.
F: Prehistoric Penguin Murals
In 1991 prehistoric murals were discovered on the walls of an underwater cave in eastern France revealing that penguins and man once lived side-by-side in that region. Historians, accustomed to seeing prehistoric depictions of animals such as bison and deer, were extremely surprised to find the penguins.
G: Shark Breeding Experiment
In 1981 the Herald-News in Roscommon, Michigan reported that 3 lakes in northern Michigan had been selected to host "an in-depth study into the breeding and habits of several species of fresh-water sharks." Two thousand sharks were to be released into the lakes including blue sharks, hammerheads, and a few great whites. The experiment was designed to determine whether the sharks could survive in the cold climate of Michigan. The federal government was said to be spending $1.3 million to determine this. A representative from the National Biological Foundation was quoted as saying that there would probably be a noticeable decline in the populations of other fish in the lake because "the sharks will eat about 20 pounds of fish each per day, more as they get older." County officials were said to have protested the experiment, afraid of the hazard it would pose to fishermen and swimmers, but their complaints had been ignored by the federal government. Furthermore, fishermen had been forbidden from catching the sharks.
H: Karate experts collect bus fares
Faced with a growing number of unruly passengers, one town in Ukraine recently adopted a unique solution: Karate-trained fare collectors. The number of passengers trying to ride without paying was said to be down sharply ever since the new collectors were introduced.

I accept your apologies Vegy.....
.....and the fact you have removed your second post.....
....but I can't let you get away with exactly the same infringement that I penalised Iron Chris for last time round.....
...so....
PENALTY imposed.... £14 deducted from prize fund with immediate effect.
Sorry, but the rules are there.......PLEASE adhere to them.
The current question remains active....but if no correct answer is posted by 13:00 Saturday, Thunderball 14 will have no owner for Draw 7, and if drawn will incur another penalty.
Ada.

It's not that bad Vegy,
It just means that you have cancelled out the £14 that would have been added to Saturday's Draw 7 prize money, so instead of it being £65 it remains at £51.
Still better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

B. Washington D.C. (38'' 53' N Latitude)
A. Lisbon (38'' 44' N Latitude)

The first person to correctly answer the following question will become the new owner of Thunderball number 2 with effect from Draw 9 on Saturday 8th April.
Anybody can take part….EXCEPT Markwales, who owns the maximum allowed 2 Thunderballs.
ONE ANSWER-POST PER PERSON ONLY, PLEASE.
Any rule breaking will result in the prize money being immediately reduced by £14.
If you look at your telephone keypad, you will see that the digits 2-9 are associated with certain letters of the alphabet:
2-A,B,C; 3-D,E,F; 4-G,H,I ……….. 9-W,X,Y,Z.
EXAMPLE
If you ‘dialled’ out the words “grand national” on your keypad you would have to enter the digits: 47263 62846625…….. g=4,r=7,a=2,n=6 etc.
Adding each digit together: 4+7+2+6+3+6+2+8+4+6+6+2+5 you will end up with a total of 61.
So....the question is...
Using the above rules:
What is the sum of the digits you would ‘dial’ to spell out the sentence:
the quick brown fox jumps over a lazy dog
Good luck
Ada.
