That's right, I'm looking for one for my Gran, but not from me, from her husband, as a birthday present. Her birthday was in April though, so she's a bit peeved off, as you can imagine.

Anyway, I've been asked to look for one for under £200. Nothing tiny, as my gran won't be able to use it. Something fairly simple with big buttons and screen. My uncle (my gran's and grandad's son) recommends about 4 megapixels to be best. I've heard that too many megapixels can "over-digitalise" a photograph making it appear too perfect. This true?

I'm about to start looking myself tomorrow, on Amazon, Dabs, Jessops, Currys, SavaStore, etc etc etc, all the usual online electroshops, but thought I'd ask here too.

Big thanks. :)

Mine is 8MB, Canon 350D, I use it for astrophotography as well, as it can pick up 10,000's more stars than the human eye, I don't call that over-digitised. :)

I also have a Fuji S5000 which is a good picture cam.

Generally speaking the best are Canon & Fuji.

Thanks Keith.

The NIKON ones look good also.

For £100-£200 I'm struggling to find one which "only" has 4 megapixels. Surely more megapixels does not over-digitalise the image quality? I am finding 6...7...8 megapixel cameras in this price bracket.

my sisters got the same cam keith - beats the poo out of my old 1.3 mega pixl :( . then again i don't do photography, she got to take home for a while a propper £2k 'press' camera at crimbo - now that was overkill, minimum pic size 20meg :yikes:

you could probably go for a sub £100 camera now john, as now digi cams have gotten fairly cheap and better spec.

2K!!! 20meg, was that also because of the resolution or just staggering picture quality?

Probably can get a decent cam for less ££ now yes, will keep an eye out. Thanks!

i think she said it could do a A2 size photo :yikes: - got a catalogue for it aswell, the lenses were even more expensive at a few thousand each for the mega 'tele' lennses.

the picture quality was amazing, though was an absalute pain in the :butthead: to do anything with (on a little imac) on photoshop.

I think 20M can do a billboard :)
