Hi All

I am off out soon to buy the gear for a wireless network as I want 2 connections from 1 box.

I have a couple of questions that the spotty kids in the shop will answer to sell me the kit but will they get the answers right?

I've seen a router with free USB adapter at PC World.

1, Does a USB connection slow things down at all? I used to connect my internet by USB cable but it never really had too much of a slowdown effect.

2, Are different makes of kit compatible as long as they follow the same protocol or back compatible protocol?

3, Can I run a 54 adapter with a 108 router?

4, Is 108 actually that much faster than 54? I read on a box in Curry's that 125 is 35% faster. So if 108 would be slightly less faster is it worth the extra money?

5, How would 54 speed compare to the current Ethernet cabled set up?

Cheers

1. I've found USB network much slower than CAT5, especially if the USB is sharing.
2. No
3. Yes, but make sure it says backwards compatable
4. No, you'll find their is little between them, and depends on what it is travelling through.
5. Wireless can be slower than cable

I've used all the makes over the years, and stick with Linksys these days. Cable is better than wireless by the way. Ionly use it for the laptop, my main systems are on Cat5.
