View Full Version : Anyone got a similar problem?

As from this morning I cannot send e-mails from outlook - worked fine last night. I leave my m/c's on overnight and any updates from microsoft and macafee are auto updated. The only thing I can think of is an overnight update has caused the prob, as it is the same on both of my computers. I can receive alright, and by logging straight into my BT account I can mail ok from there.

I'm a complete numbskull when things go wrong and have no idea how to fix it. The error code is 0x800CCC78 - whatever the heck that means:(

Switch off email checking in Mcafee and see if its that first

Thanks Keith - I have a feeling that an update has been sent down the wire as both m/c's suddenly sprung into life and fired out the mails which wouldn't go before - all seems well now :)

The clue is in 'both machines' - this immediately points to the problem lying with the email provider - there was no problem on your machine.

One of the things you can nearly always rely on when troubleshooting is 'common' causes. If something works on one machine but not the other, there is a fault on the machine. If it doesn't work on either machine, the fault lies with another common factor (eg Service Provider or maybe a piece of software recently installed on BOTH machines).

The error message means that either your email settings are incorrect - unlikely given, as Oldham says, that the problem is occurring on two PCs - or just as likely a problem with the POP3/SMTP servers at the ISP end.
