That's because the menu bar has gone. You need to go into Tools>Settings to set it up as you like it.

Right-clicking in the menu area of IE usually allows you to select which parts of the interface are visible, e.g. toolbar, links, address bar. Another right-click in the grey area of a visible interface allows you the option of further customising its appearance.

So, by way of example, right-click in the menu area and turn on the standard buttons. Then right-click in the standard buttons area and you can customise which buttons appear and in which order, etc.

Might be useful for someone else stumbling across this thread in future.

Microsoft have handily hidden the instructions :)

..and if you install a toolbar the "Open in new tab" option vanishes!

Thanks Glos.. I am in two minds whether I think IE7 is actually worse not better.. but I think I have found it out.. I`m using Mozilla more anyway which is nice and clear..
but a helpful tip on the right-clicking and have made a note of it.:hearty

IE7 is excellent,I no longer touch Firefox now, and only use Opera for the password manager pages.

Just a word of caution - IE7 does not work with 'framed' websites. If any of the sites you visit regularly has 'fixed' menus, DO NOT install IE7 - it will open a new browser to display the pages and your menu items will no longer be available.

Also be aware that once it has been installed, even uninstalling IE7 will not bring back the ability to use framed websites - another brilliant coup by Mr Microsoft ;fire

OK, I'm off to try and eliminate all IE products so that I can reinstall and get my favourite websites to work again

Companies shouldn't be using frames anymore, so old fashioned, and it's a security feature that is welcome, as frames can send you anywhere, especially on warez & porn sites.

You don't work for Microsoft do you?

That was almost the exact reply I got from them.

Ah - that will be because the site you are using have not made it IE7 compatible.

That's good to know - Is there a workround?

No - the site you are using is not IE7 compatible.

I uninstalled IE7 but the site still won't work - which files do I need to restore in order to get the site working again?

Why would you want to uninstall it? You should go to the Microsoft update site and put it back on...

But the site I WANT to use no longer works with IE7 installed...

Ah - that will be because the site you are using have not made it IE7 compatible!

Have you thought of becoming a politician?

Pardon?

Never Mind...

Like everything that Microsoft bring out, it is bug ridden and awkward to get it to do exactly what it is supposed to do.

Little things like putting the Menu ABOVE the toolbar icons requires a registry edit - what's that about? The last thing you want to be doing is messing about with the registry - one mistake in there and windows can simply stop working!

Two sites which I use everyday (one work related) will not work in IE7 along with about 10% of all sites I visited. But with typical MS arrogance, it is because the sites need to be updated - BULL - it's because they couldn't be bothered to make it compatible, knowing that the sites would be forced to comply.

I use 100's of sites a week, and not had a problem with any of them :doh

I also have no problem with the easier to use menu icons, makes it easier :)

I think the problem is grumpy old men :wink :ooo

They've probably made it too compatible - after all, previous incarnations of IE haven't exactly been too strict when it comes to dealing with badly-written HTML. So there's probably a load of code out there that's likely to fail to render properly when viewed with a more standards-compliant browser.
