Excel help quickie

I have a long list.
Each number the list needs to be decreased by 1.

If I select the whole column, is there a w ay of getting excel to automatically subtract 1 from each cell rather than creating a long winded macro or typing all the numbers manually?

This sounds incredibly easy, so easy that I've probably misunderstood your question, but as it's you, Vegy, it's so easy that I'll post what I think is an answer to your problem anyway. :D

So, column A contains your long list of values, yeah?

So surely in column B you just want...

=A1-1

Through to row 12345 or however many entrants your column contains.

That doesn't work Mat.
It just takes the top value of the column and makes each consequent number -1 of it

i.e

my list

becomes

2

-1
-2
-3
-4
-5
-6
etc

I think I misunderstood your original post.

Do what John said then select Column B, copy - paste special - values over Column A, delete Column B.

Yep, that works, just tried it. Make sure when you Paste Special that you only paste "Values" though, not "All."
