I have a Blueyonder (Telewest) cable modem connected to a router/wireless access point which in turn is connected to my PC via ethernet cable. A second PC uses wireless networking to connect to the internet. Except this is not working at the mo. It used to though. :(

If I connect the cable modem directly to my PC it works and I can connect to the web but if I go through the router I can't.

Does that mean the router is screwed?

I have checked the ethernet cable that connects the router to PC and that's fine. I used it to connect the cable modem to PC and the connection was spot on.

I have rebooted everything (modem, PC, router) but no joy. Any suggestions anyone (Glos)?

"Unplug the modem and plug it back in." :D;fire (:wink )

The modem ain't the problem here, I know that because I'm connected to it (and the internet) now. It's the damn router. All the right lights are on but no-one appears to be home, as it were

Seemingly sorted.

I reran the router setup facility and at the same time took the opportunity to properly secure the network. I hadn't realised it was running unsecured. But then so are two other networks in this area it seems :)

Nice one Mat, I connect through an unsecured wireless network here, when mine crawls/goes down. It's definitely worth securing, there are different methods of securing the network but I'm not sure how each one is different. WEP seems to be the most common but then are ones like DHCP-enabled security too.

On a slightly different note, my mum was trying to download and install Real Player earlier. I was on the phone for 45 (forty five) minutes (mainly) talking her through it. :laugh
