My question is this. Im an average punter who would like to make a real go of
makeing a profit from racing. My problem is this like i said im ordinary joe soap has a job 2 kids wife so are these things stacked against me. i couldnt find the time to read the form every day study the cards watch the races etc.
So im missing out on vital clues to a horses potential yes.
Take a meeting on a monday in warwick and horse a runs superb first time out i was working then came home played with kids never knew the race happened. 3 weeks later same horse comes out in a weaker race and wins again. the pro punter that is at it day has this horse marked etc.
So what im saying is should i stop dreaming and just become the weekend punter with the daily rag for tips? and bowl all my money long term. or just stop backing horses.

dedicating more time to something, will (should) always improve your ability at doing it. so in essence if you watched ATR / RUK all day your betting 'should' improve, i think keiths A+/A/B/C bet's are method betting from oppinion / race watching. however if you strictly bet by the statistics etc.... then race watching will have no impact on your betting.
you can also watch every race on the ATR website if you are serious about it. but i wouldn't give up just because you don't get to see the races - as IMO the stats are more telling than race watching.

ok first thing you need to do is learn about racing before you start trying to study form know the difference between handicap, chase, claming, selling, hurdle races etc. then start looking at other things if you want to know what the form is just look at the betting that will tell you what horse is expected to win.
sorry if i'm being a little condesending but i haven't got a clue how much knowledge you actually have.
now if you go into any bookies you will see people who know everything there is to know about horses but they don't know how to gamble.
this is one of the most important bits being able to find winners is in some respects the easy bit.

Some useful stuff there RH, there is a saying: 'Know your horses & you're halfway there!' The other half is betting strategy.
Can i suggest a couple of things which may improve your situation?
1/ If you haven't already got a Betfair account, you may find it less restrictive whilst you are working in helping you get your bets on.
2/ Start getting something like the Racing Post Weekender every week, I say that because unlike the Raceform Update, it includes all Irish form. If you like, I will post every horse from the results to make a note of & why. That could seriously speed up your learning. The way I see it bud, you're not alive, if you're not learning, so keep it up & I dare you to take up this suggestion:rolleyes:

The odds are stacked against joe soap so the key is to become not Joe soap and be ne of those with the edge.
You can not make money by gambling with the newspaper on a saturday. You can have fun and the odd wonder day but long term you will lose because in order to make money from gambling you have to become very selective and learn how to gamble and that takes time.
You dont have to know loads about racing to be a winning gambler but you do need to know how to gamble. That is the first thing you need to get in order and there is plenty of advice on here for that.
So if you want to become a little more serious and try to make money the first steps are to set aside betting banks, record every bet you make and get the discipline in place. Then you need to get an understanding of things like staking, Strikerate, etc. It sounds daunting but its just simple maths and discipline and most people with a degree of enthusiasm and patience on this forum have managed that be they a racing enthusiast or an interested beginner.
