wireless connection

ok got a few questions about this.
i have a wireless router and my laptop can't find it is it possible that my line isn't set up for wireless connection.
tried to get connected somewhere else my laptop found the wireless system and i put in my password and connected to the network but couldn't connect to the internet the problem has to be at my end as someone else was able to connect why can't i

well i find the network then i have 4 boxs where i have to put in hexidecimal numbers so i put my password in the first one then press connect which it does and i'm then connected it shows that i'm connected but it won't let me onto the internet all i get is you are working offline

Have you switched on Interenet Connection Sharing?

OK - this may sound really obvious but in the IE menu, there is a setting under File that says 'Work Offline' - make sure it is not ticked (if it is, just click it and it should go back online).
