It goes through the first malarkey the windows logo with the blue scrolling bar then it displays a screen saying 'Windows did not start successfully.' yadda yadda yadda.
Choose how you want to start............
When I start it in 'Safe made it starts to scroll through all the files but stops at this one.

Multi(0)rdisk(0)partitionpartition(1)\WINNT\System32\Drivers\Mup.sys

Help.

STOP PRESS: It also won't let me go into system config.:(

Can you get to the Console?

If so, this might help - READ ALL of it first!!

Have you got a Windows bootable CD?

No I can't get to the recovery console. I've put the system boot CD in the drive but it's not recognising it.
That link has some good information but I can't even get into the BIOS to do owt about it.:(
One of my daughter's mates was using it last night. My kids know all my rants and raves about dodgy websites etc etc.
'Cos I haven't been at work I haven't been using it much so the AV hasn't been updated as often as it should. Methinks that's where the problem has come from.
I'll keep plugging away.:(

Can't get into the BIOS, of course you can, otherwise the thing wouldn't do anything.

As soon as you switch on, and see the graphics info, then it is time to start pressing whatever it is on your system to enter the BIOS. DEL, F1, F2, F8...I wish they'd have it standard........

I can get in the bios now but it only lets you in every 3 or 4 start ups.:doh
I've got to the recovery console but when I try and disable the mup.sys it says that the system doesn't exist.:headbange

That's just you timing the button press wrong :)

Change the BIOS to BOOT FROM CD/DVD as the first option. Then put the disc in before starting.

I'm there already.
I tried the advice in the link that Oldham posted but see my previous post.:)

You just want to run the Windows disk from boot, ignore the Recovery Console, you want the FIX option.
