Not knowing much about rubgy.....do you think that anyone can beat NZ to the title and so would laying them be sensible or a dumb move??? I know there are probably only about 4 teams who can win and NZ do tend to blow it dont they...any thoughts?

I can't see them blowing it this time Scoob.

New Zealand go into every world cup (bar possibly 2003) as the odds on favourites to win the competition and they do have a tendancy to blow it close to the final. In my opinion though this year should be different. They have been playing by far the best rugby for the past couple of years although that is no guarentee of success but they are approaching the tournament in the sort of form England were in before the 2003 tournament. The only slight negative for me would be the form of Dan Carter at fly half. He was head and shoulders above any other player in the world in 2006 but so far in 2007 he hasn't produced his best but knowing the guys drive and determination its probably just a case of him coming into form as he gets into the tournament

Yeah it is what I thought I would hear sparky...they do look the 'real deal' this time dont they? Thanks. I might just have a small wager on France to win then....they have proved before they can raise their game sometimes and could surprise....such a shame its not 4 years ago again eh! :ermmm

Brave call, that one, Paul.:)

Argentina are a very agressive side and have beaten France 4 times out of the last 5 and only lost the most recent game by 1 point. Will be much tougher for them tonight but the vast majority of their players seem to play in the French league so will be used to grounds and conditions and I think that Juan Martín Hernández could be one of the stars of the tournament and will no doubt be out to prove a point against Skrela who is keeping him out of the 10 shirt for Stade Francais

not a big rugby fan, but i may just have a dabble on the outsiders with a handicap, 60+ points seems a big head start no matter how crap they are.

The best bet for that may be Japan Presto by far the better of the three teams facing a 60 point handicap

what about the USA (+55) and portugal (+63). along with japan thoes were the 3 bets that struck me.

yerotsluap
7th September 2007, 14:26
Portugal are really poor at this level scotland should cover the handicap fairly easily and England shouldn't have any trouble beating the Us by more than the 55 points although we are talking about England and Scotland here so anything is possible

Not too bad a start but England were absolutely terrible yesterday on that performance they may well struggle to get out of the group stages

I did read recently that the rugby team wanted to emulate the football team and win the world cup on home soil, like in '98. Only they seem to have got a bit confused and have started like France did in 2002!

Ireland so far look to have taken a page out of the England playbook very poor kicking game and giving away lots of needless penalties

I actually was in two minds about that one sparky, opted for France and in seeing the national anthems I knew i'd made the right choice. The Irish looked very tense and over emotional whilst the French looked very relaxed. As soon as I saw that I knew the irish didn't have a chance
