Why don't they just rename it Achievement of the Year award as it has nothing to do with personality.

In which case it should be McLaren for lasting until november. That was some achievement!

Im glad Joe won, he deserved it on achievement alone.

The personality bit is there so losers can qualify if no one can win it on sporting merit. Most succesful sportsmen are so driven you dont see their personality as they are too busy training and competing. Eddie Edwards and Frank Bruno had "personality" it was to mask their lack of ability at the very highest level.

It serves them right for shifting the emphasis from Sports Review of the Year to Personality of the Year...even if there was a lack of success, at least you can still review how we failed.

A deserving winner in my opinion - at least he has been a consistent winner over a long period and if ITV still showed some decent boxing he would have won it years ago.

I don't think we'll get two boxers in a row but if Amir Khan wins a world title in 2008 his odds of getting SPOTY will surely drop significantly.

25/1 with William Hill at present...

Its always worth looking at major sporting events and getting a bet in early based on that.

That bet looks as good as any. You would think Khan will be looking to move up a gear in 2008 and with no England in the Euro 2008 and no Ashes or World cup in the cricket and no Rugby world cup then you would imagine it will be an individual sportsman rather than a member of a team.

Only an Olympian can really challenge someone like Khan I'd say. Lewis Hamilton maybe. But with Khan pencilled in for a world fight at 21 (ie in the next 12 months) his odds will shorten if he looks good in the build up to that fight.

As with any bet, it's a bit of a risk but Amir Khan has looked great in recent fights and is getting better with each bout so he deserves a shot at a proper title and a good showing there will see him trimmed for the SPOTY award
