3:40 DO THE CROCODILE ROCK @ PONTIN'S HANDICAP (CLASS 3) (4yo+,0-90) Winner £7,124.70 6f STAND
Cracking Class 3 sprint this – and it does look likely that WESSEX has been layed out for it.
WESSEX ran a very good race here on January 24th, finishing second to the improved NEARDOWN BEAUTY. That race was over 7 furlongs and this drop back in trip is sure in Wessex favour.
Indeed the horse won a Class 2 here , 2 years ago, almost to the week (although spotlight in the racing post incorrectly states it was last year).
Trainer Blockley has a good record at Southwell – and a close look at his stats will tell you, that when he means business he books Stephen Donohoe.
Stephen was 3 from 4 (75% ) last year , and is 2 from 7 this (29%).
To summarize:
Horse who has been targeted at this race (imo)
Horse has won over course and distance
Horse has won in better grade
Horse is lower in the handicap than his last win
Trainer who is in form
Trainer has good stats at the track
Jockey who does the biz when booked by this trainer
Jockey in good current form
Jockey who as a reasonably good track record
Jockey who has a 29% strike rate when riding sprinters (2008 = 4 from 14)
What more could we want ?
Should get a good run for our money – so @ 4/1 its the full 10 points on the nose…
