Maybe it cannot find it because you have it hidden in the cupboard under the stairs. Try bringing it out of the cupboard!

What Service Pack is installed in Windows XP? What make/model is the computer?
Do you have the original Drivers CD or floppy disc that came with the computer - you'll find the drivers on there. Also RAID drivers normally can be found on the motherboard manufacturers website as well, and they tend to be more updated.

Just download and Run Belarc Adviser from the link above.
Then copy the Main Circuit Board section and the Controllers section on here.

OK, there is no SATA controller present so the drive either uses IDE channels only or the RAID (missing) drivers are causing problems.
The Belarc info points to one of a number of boards. Download and unzip Everest (make sure you unzip it to a folder on your desktop - otherwise you'll have a load of files scattered all over the place) and then run the Everest.exe file. Hopefully it will give us the name of the motherboard name.

A google for K8M800-8237 seems to bring up either a Gigabyte or a Jetway mobo. I reckon it must be a Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. K8M800-8237 is AMD board. Try here for the drivers: http://www.giga-byte.com/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ClassValue=Motherboard&ProductID=1810&ProductName=GA-K8VM800M .

OK - It's a Jetway M28MS-P motherboard.
http://www.jetway.com.tw/jw/motherboard_view.asp?productid=293&proname=M28MS-P#
Click Driver from the menu and download the SATA/RAID driver. Make sure you create a Restore point before installing.

It's NOT a Gigabyte. 6A7L1J19C-00 denotes Jetway.
