I know exactly what you mean. This week has been truly dreadful for both backing and laying :(

You should have bet on Leyton Orient this week.

2 away wins at 5-2 and 3-1.

Wish I had :(

Is it the weather screwing with the results or something else?

My overlay this past week has been a lot higher than normal and my SR a lot lower but I'm doing nothing different. It's rather frustrating

I'm in profit this month by 4 figures, so it must be you :laugh

Lays still need 2-3 good days though, may break even today if the last 6 lays lose.

Laying im about even for september. I do worry about the weather though, it was absolutley foul today.

when losing runs come along people always look for excuses and something to blame and the weather seems to be the favourite so i'm sure some switched one chap could chack back there results and see if this actually does hinder the results

My laying SR for September is 74.77% and that's across 7 systems (not all W2W systems). Three of them are up small amounts with the other 4 down to varying degrees, two of them quite significantly, including my Lay'em bank.

My overlay is 12.60% for September compared to 10.12% for August and 10.41% overall this year (Jan - Aug). My overlay on the winning horses (losing lays) for September is 17.63% compared to 13.52% for the period Jan - Aug this year.

Obviously my sample for September is much smaller than that for the rest of the year so 1 or 2 horses can have a much bigger impact on the figures but it certainly seems like September hasn't started well for me on the laying front.

I think Silax is right, I suppose the weather has just as much chance of skewing things in your favour as well as against it. There have been some market moves and I have horrendously overlayed at times but it only matters on the winning horses when laying to fixed stake and ive got away with it.

Laying is so volatile, a bad week or a good week can make a massive difference. Im sure the weather might make a very short term impact one way or other but long term its probably only a minor factor. Im just fed up with abandonded meetings and miserable rain!

last year i did a lot of investigation in to weathers effect and came to the conclusion there was no real effect

tophatter
7th September 2008, 18:06
I think that sounds about right SC.

My main worry about the weather is the fact I dont do my gambling full time and therefore these heavy downpours can change the ground quick and means i might have overlayed in one or two cases if the prices go crazy due to ground change/Non-runners.

Long term im sure it makes no difference - just makes me feel uneasy short term.

Long term im sure it makes no difference - just makes me feel uneasy short term.Agree with you 100% there.

The lousy weather means a lot more non-runners for a wide variety of reasons and generally speaking I tend to find that when there are a lot of NRs, or a lot of abandoned races, my betting suffers. I think this is especially true for layers. One winner won't hurt too much if you have nine losers to offset it but when you pick out ten bets for the day and 3 or 4 of them turn out to be NRs you often seem to hit that winner but without the same number of losers to minimise the damage.

I guess one good thing to come from all of this is I get a week at a lower commission rate as the amount I lost last week racked up enough points to tip me into the next level

A much better start to today :D

If only I had got my head screwed on properly and not layed Count Paris as well as backing it :splapme I normally void such lays but today I didn't make the connection between the backs and lays.

I use software for comparing these days, although the odd one will still get through each year and of course they are the ones that cost money!!!

I only had 5 yesterday I could lay, they all lost.

I layed 4 - Myanmar (won), Timocracy (won but I thrashed SP), Paradise Island (Lost), Croeso Crusan (won).

Admittedly I don't pay too much attention (none) to the odds in terms of the acceptable range - I just use my standard cut-off of 11.0 and lay everything below that. It served me well enough before now but may be coming back and biting me on the :butthead:

mathare
12th September 2008, 09:57
Just checked my profit/loss stats for the Easy Money lays. If I use the 3/1-15/2 odds range on the SPs my profits drop off slightly compared to laying everything under 11.0. My SR would improve by 0.21% were I to stick to the 3/1-15/2 odds range but my turnover would be way down as the number of bets is cut from 510 to 331.

Win2Win
12th September 2008, 10:22
I use 4.0-10.5

If it's bordering on close, I usually void it.

SR is currently 88.18% from a high of 89.28% 6 weeks ago. That's over 858 bets. That drop in 1% has resulted in about a 12% drop in profits though in that period, but still enough in profit to buy out XL :ooo

mathare
12th September 2008, 10:59
I think in all honesty I am just experiencing a statistical correction as the SR had been over 90% till recently. It's just I am experiencing statistical corrections on a few systems at the same time which is amplifying the effects of each of them
