After learning a lot from posting a hand before I'll do it again.

Its a 10 player STT, 5 left and I'm 2nd in chips. I'm dubious on my play here. I'm happy enough that I got out but I raised after the flop with top pair and then folded on the re-raise...what do people think? Was the initial call good? Should I have raised after the flop like I did?

Seat 1: Blkny06 ($2,180 in chips)
Seat 3: bland2007 ($6,275 in chips)
Seat 4: _crazybadger ($3,205 in chips)
Seat 5: jamesonzhang ($1,060 in chips)
Seat 8: JMJRUG ($2,280 in chips)
ANTES/BLINDS
bland2007 posts small blind ($50), _crazybadger posts big blind ($100).

_crazybadger dealt [Qc 9s] (cant actually remember what my 2nd card was. 9 or 10 I think and they were both black)

PRE-FLOP
jamesonzhang folds, JMJRUG calls $100, Blkny06 bets $400, bland2007 folds, _crazybadger calls $300, JMJRUG calls $300.

FLOP [board cards: QD 5H 3H ]
_crazybadger bets $500, JMJRUG folds, Blkny06 bets $1,780 and is all-in, _crazybadger folds.

Blkny06 wins $3,530.

My advice would be to fold this hand preflop as it has bad reverse implied odds. What I mean by this is when you get a Queen-high flop your never really that happy as most of the hands you get it all in against can have you easily dominated QT, QJ, KQ, AQ and over pairs.

On the flop after you lead into the preflop raiser you have to call a shove because you are getting such great odds.

for me i would have just folded the Q9 after the raise by with this hand you need to see a cheap flop. the first call from UTG must have a hand to be calling in that position the raise tells you he must have a very nice hand. So pre-flop with Q,9 you're gonna be behind even hitting the Q on the flop might not see you ahead. you're in the best position on the table to read the play and its not a hand to play. A fold first time round may well have seen the other 2 guys go all in and another player is out of the game and its cost you nothing.
ok now you've played the hand and hit you need to find info you have top pair but you want to know if anybody else has still got a hand a raise to 500 is too much imo 200 would have giving you the same result or at best would have giving you the chance of seeing another card fairly cheaply.
the 500 raise got you info alright and tells you the winner has a better hand then you no other thing to do here then fold.
back to the intial start of the hand with Q9 what flop do you need to win it. with the way the betting has gone you have to assume there are at min 2 cards higher then you're Q possibly more the guy raising to 300 has to have something better then you.
so to win you firstly need to flop a Q9 or a straight with out Aor K appearing i just don't think this is a hand to play at this stage of the game. the chances of you flopping anything that can win you the hand are really slim and not worth the 300 chips its gonna cost you to see the flop.

I'm usually very constructive with my criticism but in this case - wtf are you doing calling a pre-flop raise of 4x bb with Q9 off suit?

The play after the flop is fine - you just shouldn't have been in the hand.

Looking at the potential for developing the hand, the best flop you could reasonably hope to see is Qxx. If (as it proved) you were unwilling to play that, you really should be asking whether you should have been in the pot.

I agree with the general concensus here - the cards should have been folded pre-flop.

Goodo. Pretty much the feedback I expected. Sometimes I think I play too tight when there are fewer people at the table so this hand I thought I'd try a bit looser (and I'd just knocked 2 guys out consecutively with some good play...so thought they might be stand-offish against me). I dont normally play Q9 and sadly thats the best reason/excuse I can think off.

I like your comment oldham about thinking about what I was hoping to see Qxx and then if I would play it. That sort of thinking is what I'm lacking in my game at the moment.

Thanks guys.
