It's that time of year again when most of the tv ads are for cd's.
I thought I would start this thread so that if any of us have any newish ones we can say what we think of them.
RAZORLIGHT - Slipway Fires - A++ -
Excellent album, totally different from their others, mostly slow ballads.
STEREOPHONICS - Decade in the sun - A
Well worth the money, almost 80 mins of their best stuff plus a few others .
N-DUBZ - Uncle B - C
I bought this on the strength of their chart single Papa...
That is certainly the best song on the album, but the rest of it is listenable and after a few more plays I think it will grow on me.
NICKELBACK - Dark Horse - C
I've only listened to this once, it wasn't what I was expecting, it's
alot heavier
NE-YO - Year of the Gentleman - A+
Excellent album just about every track could do well as a single.
THE STREETS - Everything is Borrowed - A++
In my opinion this is their best yet, but if you like the rawness of OPM then you may not agree. Much softer the rawness has been replaced by an orchestra.
OASIS - Dig out your soul - E
Whats the story - I have no idea , Definately maybe it definately is not. They have changed and not in a good way. There is one excellent track, a couple of good tracks the rest - well ?
They can put out any rubbish and it will sell, but if this had of been their first album they wouldn't be the massive band they are today.
MERCURY REV - Snowflake Midnight - A++
They have done it again, brought out an album in a different style to their others , and it is fantastic.
A magical listening experience.

Agree with you on the Oasis album. Some excellent tracks - I like The Turning a lot.
No point in me buying the 'Phonics one when I've already got all the albums. :D

This one will not be to everyone's taste but it has been playing almost non-stop on my MP3 player since I bought it a couple of months ago.
Scooter - Jumping All Over the World
It's another mish-mash of hardcore/techno beats, earthy vocals and what can only be described as 'Pinky and Perky' vocals! Throw in some samples from classic 80s and 90s tunes and you won't know what's coming next!
And for good measure, there is a 'bonus' CD of their previous hits (although most of them were probably bigger in their home country of Germany than here in the UK).
Favourite tracks:
Jumping All Over the World (You Tube the video for this one)
Cambodia
Jump that Rock (some classic Status Quo riffs on this one)
The Logical Song
Rebel Yell

I heard it on the jools holland show the other week & I thought it was a brilliant song. Funny enough I bought the album today. You will have plenty of time to listen to those albums now that your team are out of the cup Sam :mover

I'd disagree a wee bit on both Nickelback and Oasis... I think the Nickelback album is possibly their best yet, probably because of it's heavier feel. Oasis, yeah it's not a classic by any means but it's a good album, maybe a bit of a grower. Stereophonics is of course a goody being full of some of their best stuff, a band that have gotten better as they've matured.... and I reckon the next ten years will be even better!

I've given the Nickelback album another couple of listens and there are 6 tracks that are tops , they are probably the ones you are not keen on Big C as they are the slower ones :wink

Funnily enough I was listening to Pure Phase only yesterday. I dug out all my audio tapes from the garage and started to record them onto my PC. Today I will be listening to Ladies and Gentleman etc...
A good, if not great, group. Could have made it massive if the word heroin had not been introduced to Jason's vocabulary.

Let it come down was hailed as the best album of the year in most music magazines when it was released, that was the defiining album for him. made it big but not mainstream big
Went to see them in Paridiso and were amazing, a lot more music less lyrics when playing live than on the album
good interview/write up here about him

AKON - FREEDOM - A+++
Can this guy make a bad album?
Yeah it sounds like Konvict but if you liked that then this is not a bad thing.

As it's time to start xmas shopping ( in Oldham anyways :laugh ) I thought we'd better bring this thread to life again.
U2 - No line on the Horizon -
ok I'm a mega U2 fan but after hearing the single fill yer boots or whatever it is which I can not stand I was not looking forward to the album.
However I was blown away, it's absoloutely fantastic - apart from that one track.
Eminem - Relapse -
Not one of his best, ok maybe it is but I've waited what seems like forever for this to come out, and whilst good it's all very samey.
There is one excellent track on it - Beautiful - the rest are all good but not as I expected after all this time.
Very controversial as well, child abuse, suicide, serial killers etc.
It's straight to number one and deservedly so.
Placebo - Battle For The Sun -
Not officially released as yet but I was lucky enough to get a pre-sale.
It's excellent, so glad I will be seeing them soon.
