Anyone ever been? I'm particularly looking forward to watching Master Minded in the VC Chase.

I haven't been since they rebuilt it with major design flaws, however previously the atmosphere is excellent, alas, knowhere near as good as race meetings in Ireland, they know how to freak out. :)

I've been there a few times before it was rebuilt & the only thing I would say about the Jump meetings there are that they lack atmosphere due to the fact that the jumps course is a fair bit away from the stands. I would advise you to take a pair of binnoculars with you. There is a WH betting shop on the high street right by the course. You may bump into Jeremy Kyle in there :ooo

I have to admit I haven't been since about 98.
And I also have to admit to being so disinterested in the racing back then that I can't remember anything about it. And, i was there as a guest of Henrietta Knight who was a client.
I knew nothing about racing and had no interest either. It's a sad state of affairs and I am appalled at myself.

But you still new more about racing back then, than Vegy does now :D

Is there any sort of dress code for the NH meetings?
NH meetings in Ireland are fairly relaxed, and jeans/shirt would usually do the trick. Just wondering what it's like at Ascot generally.

A nice silk red dress would be nice. :)

Just wear something 'Royal' there Wayne, they like that there. I have heard Prince Harry t-shirts are going cheap. :D

Are they the 'FCUK-UP' ones? :doh
Mr WB (or should I say Mr RSS in disguise? :wink): Dress codes are mentioned on the Ascot site, but they do apologise it is only in English, not Irish

Seriously though folks, I'm getting picked up at 6am tomorrow - does anyone know if there's a dress code for this type of meeting?

Cant wait. I won't get rich by backing him but I'm particularly looking forward to seeing Master Minded - the highest rated NH in training.
Hoping to do a few bets on the card, and the value I got for my euro was great :thumbs

Well, I have to say I was pretty impressed with Ascot. I thought it was a superb set up. We had premium tickets, but even the regular areas were well laid out and it was easy to get a drink and a bet on without having to queue for more than a minute or two for either :thumbs I'm not big into crowds and it was perfect.
I thought the view was pretty good, although I've never been to the old Ascot.
It's by far the best racecourse I've ever visited and definitely beat Longchamp.
The one downside is that is that the atmosphere was a bit muted - probably due to the size of the place. I think there were around 12,000 people there and it didn't seem too busy. I think that affected the atmosphere a little.
All in all, a great trip and it was a pure joy to watch Master Minded jump those fences like that.
The dress code was fairly strict and they don't let you wear jeans or sports wear. I had a suit and tie on anyway so just played it safe.
I'd definitely go back and the train journey took less than one hour from Waterloo.

Going back again to Ascot on Saturday. Managed to get a couple of free tickets from Betfair so I decided to make a weekend out of it and go over on Friday morning.
Staying in London City for the night and myself and the missus are going to go for a nice posh meal as this is our Valentine night out. :thumbs Have a hotel booked too so it's all good.
Saturday we go to Ascot for what should be a good day of racing. After racing, we head off to stay in the uncle's house in Peckham :omg:
I know my way around Peckham at this stage so it doesn't bother me but I have to say, my Canadian wife finds it a bit 'different'. !
Flying back on Sunday evening so it should be a great weekend of racing and drinking. :)
