Hi Street cry,

Might seem like a silly question, but is it possible that you could try a different battery pack in the laptop as it is possible that yours might have gone faulty.

It is possible that the HDD structure has become unstable or collapsing. If you could get hold of a copy of Hirens BootCD then you could possibly do a hard drive check and see if it is ok or not.....

It can't be a very big drive then!

Right-click on RECYCLE BIN, and in properties change the allocated space to about 300-500MB.

In CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM>SYSTEM RESTORE change the allocated space to about 1-2%.

The reboot. Windows has a habit of allocating too much space on machines, and most folk can set this much lower than it is.

It may be worth installing a new 2.5" HD, and memory will speed it up.

Do what the Boss says, but before you go out and buy a new HD and memory, go and download and run http://download.cnet.com/3001-8022_4-10523889.html?spi=05f382fa109068e9b20b1d00ddc0f41d (SuperAntiSpyware) to check for any nasties that might be causing the problems.

thanks guys this comp is 100gb hd and 2gb ram and there is certainly not the amount of data stored that the is being indicated.
I'll run that programme oldham cheers, i have run various diagnostics throughout last night to attempt to diagnose all possible problems including checking whether the HD is about to fail and there was nothing indicative.

Sounds like a possible corrupt FAT not giving the space correctly. You can get software to fix it, or re-partition the drive 50/50, the software for thsi may also fix FAT error. Install windows on the new 1/2 and reinstall, you have 30 days with windows to do it.

Is the drive partitioned? I have found that quite often machines come with a 'data' partition which never gets used because everything is set to use the C Drive. If the OS is on the C Drive and you have a data partition, Right Click on My Documents and 'Move' the documents folder to the data partition. If there is still 'low disk space', consider uninstalling programs and re-installing them on the data drive.
