Biggest gig of the year for me tonight with the legendary AC/DC playing the O2 arena... I've got my parachute packed as I'm up in the high level seating.... view is supposed to be superb, as is the sound, but it's supposed to be a very steep slope and I suffer from vertigo :yikes:. A few beers will have to sort that out!

I have a sore neck from headbanging all night.... a sore throat from 'singing'... and a sore liver. I knew I was sitting high up.... didn't realise I was going to need a bloody oxygen mask! 3 rows from the ceiling. Balls to that says I, and wandered down to the first barrier where everyone else seemd to keep getting moved on... except me. Maybe the sight of 19 stone of manic headbanging Scotsman frightened them off!
Anyway the gig itself.... I'd say there are 3 truly great rock'n'roll bands around these days. Motorhead, the Stones, and AC/DC. I don't think it matters which one is the most recent you see because that will usually be the best gig of the lot and tonight was no exception. Brian Johnson's voice is finally suffering just a wee bit from his age, but he still gave it 100% and most of the time sounded bloody brilliant. We'll forgive him for cocking up the words to The Jack... Angus was better than ever, got to be one of the most underrated blues-rock guitarists around, thankfully he didn't flash his :butthead: tonight.... just a pair of AC/DC boxers.... made the young girl sitting next to me laugh cos I covered her eyes and told her she was way too young to be seeing that sort of thing.
The good old rhythm section were as always tighter than the tightest tight thing you can imagine. Despite where I was sitting the sound was fantastic, very clear, and decent volume. The stage set was brilliant... with a nifty inflatable big lass for Whole Lotta Rosie.... and plenty of cannons during For Those About To Rock, and of course Hells Bell.... nothing like a big dong to liven things up :laugh
The set list.... I don't think it's changed throughout the tour so this should be pretty close....
Rock'n'Roll Train
Hell Ain't A Bad Place To Be
Back In Black
Big Jack
Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
Thunderstruck
Black Ice
The Jack
Hells Bells
Shoot To Thrill
War Machine
Anything Goes
You Shook Me All Night Long
TNT
Whole Lotta Rosie
Let There Be Rock
Encores
Highway To Hell
For Those About To Rock.
Around 1 hour 40 minutes.... half an hour less than the last tour, but almost certainly down to trying to preserve Brian's voice for the world tour they're already 6 months into. Still well worth the £50. A brave choice doing 5 off the new album... they've not done that for many a year. And still 4 from Back In Black, with only 2 songs from the 28 years in between! All in all a brilliant gig from a fantastic band at a pretty spectacular venue - that itself gets the thumbs up from me, apart from the beer prices.... £4.30 a pint upstairs!:yikes:
The big question.... is there a band capable of taking on the old guard.... and keeping the flag flying for good old fashioned rock'n'roll.
The Answer.... is The Answer! They were the support tonight and were very good indeed... great raucous rock, big riffs, catchy tunes, and just everything in the right place... a band that are definitely going places - watch out for them!
