Health and Safety -
ACADEMICS at Oxford University have banned step-ladders from its world famous Bodleian library – because of health and safety fears.
The ban means students are unable to reach books on the top shelves but dons refuse to bring them lower because it would remove them from their “original historic location”.
Step-ladders have been used to reach books in Duke Humfrey’s reading room for
decades.
The university’s health and safety officer had them removed two weeks ago.
The library would prefer to keep the books in their original historic location –
where they have been safely consulted for 400 years prior to the instructions from the health and safety office
This is madness, people need to access those books.

On radio last noght, some guy who owns 1/3rd of a piece of grassland outside his house has been told by the council to only cut his 1/3rd in future due to health & safety :splapme
Obviosly the councils 2/3rds of grass is far more dangerous than the other 3rd :ermmm
...and we pay these :censored: :ass2'ole councillors to do this! :icon_tong:icon_tong:icon_tong:icon_tong:icon_tong
If the BNP end up with more seats everywhere the politicians had better blame themselves rather than the voters.....unlikely though.

No doubt a safety harness of some description would have been aesthetically out of character with the library - as will be the hydraulic platform that they will need should they ever want to access the top shelves again!

A safety harness has to be inspected by a third party every 6 months and is valid only for 5 years from date it was put into service.
The most reasonable thing would be to put their staff on a ladder course

i have been on one and it was a total waste of a day out of my time !!
