I have just had my biggest ever loss on one single race in the 2.10 at Nottingham. :(

It was bigger than the total amount I have won on any of my profitable days this month - on one bloody race. :yikes:

I was just about to start a thread along similar lines. Could really have done without that one :(

You should really adjust your banks so you don't get such massive swings, otherwise you can have one system that effects whether each day is profitable or not.

I won't mention I'm up so far today :peeky

It was a fairly hefty loss for me but by no means catastrophic. That race cost me 16pts but there is still a good chance of clawing all of that back and then some over the rest of the day. I don't like big priced winners on the lays (who does?) but I think my banks are balances well enough to recover quickly enough without chasing losses

I done a dutch in the 3.20, looked at the potential profit...£400....as it was the 3 outsiders I decided to wait and let them drift....when I looked back they'd all been backed and the 3 'Favs' had drifted :splapme ......only made £250 :ermmm

Mark Johnston may just have saved the day - again! :)

Hopefully, I will be saying that after the 9.30 when Pegasus Lad goes in!

Failing that, anything but Casino Night please! :thumbs

Lol. I'll take Pegasus Lad, Casino Night or El Dececy in this last! Any one of them goes in and it's a decent day. I'm up regardless, first "up" day since 5th July - but one of those will make it a much better day.

3 from 8 on the backs, up 1.90pts. I got slightly under SP on the Mark Johnston winner too, once commission is taken into account. Even so that helped save what was turning into a pretty poor day.

9 (!) from 32 on the lays, down 22.46pts. I was going to have to have a bad day on the increased stakes at some point so I am going to have to get used to losing more significant sums than I did previously and today seems like a good a day as any to start. 9 winners from 32 though, that's a pretty bad day.

At least the poker went alright this evening :laugh

Actually just double checked my figures against Betdaq and it's actually only a 21.78pts loss on the lays today. Three-quarters of a point back!

If you are going to do the pro thing correctly you need to log the Betfair price at the same time you place the Betdaq bets, and compare the prices. :)

If you are going to do the pro thing correctly you need to log the Betfair price at the same time you place the Betdaq bets, and compare the prices. :)Why? So I can split my lay bets across the exchanges and get the best prices? For some reason I can't make any profit at Betfair but at Betdaq I am fine :doh I know it's just a freak of statistics and what have you but as I can profit at Betdaq, and prefer that exchange, I am working on bringing my commission level down there. I'm not at all worried about my overlay either, it's been really good this year

If you are laying and Betfair avegare price for you is 6.7, but on Betdaq it is 7.2, you need to work out which one makes the most profit, although it is best to bet between the two. When I'm dutching I have both Betangel's open, and the difference can be a lot of money in some cases.

It was a welcome good day for me yesterday.

I was looking at betdaq this morning, and some race every horse has a lower backing price than betfair, how does that work on an exchange, I thought that as it was an exchange that situation would be pretty much not possibl.

Just depends on market forces on the exchanges.

For the vast majority of dutch bets I do, I use Betfair as you get better overall odds.

Keith, please forgive my naivety, but I don't really understand what you mean.

The stakes for each of my banks are adjusted in conjunction with how well that particular bank is performing.

The race in question involved a horse that qualified as a Win2Win Lay and a Lay'em.

The Win2Win Lay bank is my biggest lay bank and so involves larger losses when the qualifiers win. Conversely, the bank increases by a larger amount than any other bank when a qualifier loses.

Am I doing something wrong?

What your doing is not wrong, but if one bank has grown to say £1000 and all the others average £200, and they all started on £50, then the first one will probably mean a day being a winning one or a losing one regardless of what the others do.

If you can handle that, fine, but you can, and I do it with some depending on what portfolio they are in, levels the banks off a bit. So in the above example make the £200's into £300's, and the £1000 may become a £600 bank, thereby spreading the risk, and stopping the massive swings.
