View Full Version : Win2Win Poker Tournament

John
18th July 2009, 21:09
Hello all,

Hands up if you're interested in playing a tournament - structure as follows:

Type: STT NLHE (9-seated)
Buy in: $5 (+$0.50 rake)
Blinds: 15 minute intervals
Starting chips: 1,500

Venue: PokerStars

Date/Time: To be agreed - was thinking of having it each Sunday (or any day that suits...) if there's enough interest. Although I know I'm not available every Sunday over the next few weeks. I realise pressing for a game tomorrow night is short notice, but if anyone is interested in playing tomorrow I can set it up.

So... anyone up for showing me the nuts? :D

id love to but i always have to go around 9.30pm so it would be pointless for me.

That's no problem though, we can play earlier so that you have enough time after it finishes to get ready to go to work. When would be a convenient time for you to play on a Sunday? Or on another day... doesn't have to be a Sunday, was just a suggestion!

peza2605

I can't believe this hasn't attracted more interest - we used to play this with 9 of us nearly every week. Is nobody bothered any more?

Great stuff guys. I'll keep you posted for Sunday. Would be great to play this weekend as I'm away Wednesday 29th-Sunday 2nd.

Those who know their plans, what time would be most convenient?

mathare
21st July 2009, 16:09
Evening is a bad time for me but Sunday afternoon I could do. That said I might be able to make an evening tourney but I wouldn't be able to commit in advance. If I had time when it was starting I'd play; else I wouldn't. If that makes sense

peza2605

Are you referring to just Sundays when you say that Mat, or all days?

Feel free to suggest anything you like. Maybe weekday evenings are more convenient for everyone... I don't know unless everyone tells me... put it out there! :)

I love playing poker, especially with you lot,

however, my computer is 7 years old and as slow as a snail pulling a truck
so it would be just too frustrating for me to play any poker on this old thing!

I can open a Poker Stars account - I am generally around on Sunday evenings but not this week.

John
23rd July 2009, 18:02
Thanks guys, great that we're getting a team of people together!

I've a feeling I'm going to be a bit busy this Sunday, so let's leave it for this week. Hope that's okay? Bit hectic this weekend but I'll organise a game when I return at the beginning of August. I've emailed PokerStars and have had the facility enabled on my account already to set up private tournaments. :)

counterfeit
25th July 2009, 07:12
all over - BlueSq, Betfair, Laddies, Full Tilt, Partypoker, Pacific, Ultimate Bet, VC, Paddy Power.

And, I have 5 different log in names so I have to have them all written down on a post it on the top corner of my screen.

John
26th July 2009, 01:11
Nice, nice. So potentially we have the following people interested:

Counterfeit
John
Mathare
Peza
SeaTheStars
TooTall
Vegyjones
Yerotsluap

Also possibly:

Markwales
Keith

Would be nice to have 9 people so that we have a full table, obviously not everyone will be able to make it every week though. But I reckon we should aim for 6 as a minimum. If this generates more interest over time we can look at scaling up to 2 x tables.

Great stuff people, thanks for showing your interests. :)

TooTall
1st August 2009, 17:32

2nd August 2009, 08:29
I'd play for sure.

Anybody else in the UK $100k on stars tonight? Over 10,000 in so far.

6000 places paid.

mathare
2nd August 2009, 09:12
I looked at that tourney and decided it wasn't worth it for me. I don't expect to go deep and didn't fancy paying even the token dollar to enter a 'freeroll'

markwales
2nd August 2009, 12:09
Seemed a no brainer to me really. Playing a $100k event for nothing.

The dollar actually got you entry into a dollar tourney, with everyone getting a free ticket to the freeroll, so essentially it was a freeroll for all.

I got in through one of the 150 seat freerolls, which only had 240 runners hahaha

TooTall
2nd August 2009, 17:07
Im playing the 100k also i quite like these freerolls normally half your table is sitting out so is quite easy to cash

TooTall
2nd August 2009, 21:06
oh well out in 1060th for 12 free dollars

bigmazey
2nd August 2009, 23:29
Is it to late or can i join the tourney when it starts.

John
2nd August 2009, 23:46
It's never too late! Feel free to join BigMazey. The more players we have the better... we'll just play over more than one table if there's more than 9 of us (and I hope there will be!)

peza2605
3rd August 2009, 10:39
any idea of the start time yet ? or have you already put it in the thread? im a lazy sod who hasnt looked,.

John
3rd August 2009, 15:09
Date and time still to be agreed, but I was thinking Sunday 9th August at, say, 6.00pm. How does that sound, is it early enough for you Peza?

Suggestions welcome. :)

TooTall
3rd August 2009, 17:15
6.00pm would be the earliest i could do

John
3rd August 2009, 17:26
Would 7pm be better then?

mathare
3rd August 2009, 17:44
To be honest, on a Sunday anything before 8-8.30pm will be a struggle for me. Arrange it to suit most people though John, it's all you can do.

peza2605
3rd August 2009, 18:39
6 would be fine, 7 would be better 8 might even be ok if i can knock you all out by 9.30!:D

TooTall
3rd August 2009, 18:48
Im easy with anything after 7

John
3rd August 2009, 19:43
Cheers guys.

How about 7.30 or 8pm - I say 8pm in case Mat can tentatively make it.

If it's a definite no-go at 8pm Mat, I'll say 7.30pm to make it easier for Peza if that's okay?

It looks like I'll be there this week. I'm not that great at holdem but for $5 who cares. Must go away and read my holdem sng strategy again. I haven't got time to even have a few trial games this weekend.

Today I am at Headingley for the Test match, I've got a cricket final tomorrow and my son's 9th birthday on Sunday.

Fantastic news for me.

Just logged into Poker Stars in order to deposit some cash. Opened the cashier and discovered I had $45 in my account. Given that I can't remember opening an account it was a hell of a pleasant surprise.

See you Sunday night fellas.

Glad you'll be there, but your comment about the buy-in makes me think I should have made it at least $50! :laugh

Cricket final in Huddersfield. Fortunately, the weather forecast is fantastic so looking forward to it. To be honest we have been lucky with the draw so far and the team we meet in the final are 3 divisions above us so we should get stuffed but it's the first time we have reached the final since 1987 apparently so the old timers are looking forward to getting wrecked, win or lose.

As for the buy in, I meant that I am unlikely to win anything so as it's a low buy-in I can earn that much (hopefully) playing cash Omaha on another table.

John
7th August 2009, 16:19
Well, regardless of how you get on, the weather will hopefully make for a nice day's play. Good luck, they may be much better than your team but be sure to give them a run for their money.

See you Sunday. :)

John
9th August 2009, 12:45
You can still register today if you would like to take part in tonight's tournament - it's not too late.

John
9th August 2009, 21:31
Thanks to the four of you for coming along - Mat, Peza, TooTall and Mark. Thanks also Counterfeit and Ada for dropping by, it's a shame you guys couldn't play tonight but hopefully you'll be able to join us in coming weeks.

The finishing positions were as follows (I'll post these every week, so it doesn't look like I'm blowing my own trumpet!)

1. John
2. Peza
3. TooTall
4. Mat
5. Mark

I'll send an email to PokerStars to see whether we can change the blind intervals, as 15 minutes seems a little too long. If they say that we can (somehow I don't think they will since the dialog doesn't allow it) we can discuss what this should be.

Otherwise we can look at other sites to play at - if anyone has any in mind?

Thanks again for playing, and hope to see more of you next time. :)

With say 8 players and 15 minute levels you could be looking at a long old tourney if tonight is anything to go by

John
9th August 2009, 22:28
Cheers Peza.

Mat, what sites do you use - any chance you could look into the custom tourney features on a couple? Be nice to have shorter levels.

mathare
9th August 2009, 22:31
I don't think iPoker do them and that's the network I use most

TooTall
9th August 2009, 22:46
The only other sites i use are Full Tilt and Paradise just looked on full tilt and the private tournys i opened up had 10 minute levels

John
9th August 2009, 23:59
That'd be better at 10 minute levels. I have an account with Full Tilt too. Don't mind setting one up there...

TheGoodGuy
10th August 2009, 00:03
Oh no!!! :yikes: I've just struggled to set up a PokerStars account WITH money in it........& you're talking about using another site :splapme :laugh

Not sure how many use Ladbrokes.......but their Blind level increase for a private 10 player NL HE tourney would appear to be every 10 hands (as opposed to minutes)

:thumbs

mathare
10th August 2009, 10:10
I don't have a Full Tilt account and not sure I can be bothered setting one up to be honest

John
10th August 2009, 10:44
You don't have to play if you don't want to, Mat.

TooTall
10th August 2009, 10:48
Do betfair do private games? Im sure everyone on here has an account with them

mathare
10th August 2009, 10:57
You don't have to play if you don't want to, Mat.I'd like to play but it's not worth the time and effort to set up a new account for just one game a week. It's a waste of a deposit bonus if nothing else as I would need to make a first deposit but won't be playing enough to release it.

I'm trying to spread my play around fewer sites rather than more is all.

John
10th August 2009, 11:49
True Mat, and I take your point, but you may find you actually like Full Tilt anyway and continue to play there once you've an account.

Full Tilt is my second favourite site to play at... might revisit it to see what it's like tonight.

I'll have to look into whether Betfair do private tournaments - not sure if they do.

counterfeit
10th August 2009, 18:44
Yes - sorry for my late arrival. At least I know where I need to go next week.

I like the idea of private tourney on Betfair - not sure if they do them but at least we would all have an account.

counterfeit
16th August 2009, 14:06
Are we on for tonight?

John
16th August 2009, 16:28
Could do... I haven't had time to do anything about it though, have had a busy old week. Could be limited in numbers if we do play.

counterfeit
16th August 2009, 16:32

John
17th August 2009, 10:20
Sure thing. Apologies to anyone who thought this was going ahead last night also. My internet was down for most of yesterday (and is still down today; good job I'm at work). Hopefully it won't be down for much longer.

I'll see what my plans are like for next weekend (have a feeling I'll be busy) but it doesn't have to be on a Sunday - like I said, if anyone has any availability then just post here or PM me and we can organise a game.

Here's a reply from PokerStars Support regarding blind levels. Looks like we'll have to find somewhere else to play unless they introduce it soon.

-----------

Hello John,

Thank you for your email.

Unfortunately it is currently not possible to change the blind levels settings for private tournaments. I have, however, sent this email to our poker management team and they will definitely take your suggestion into account.

We really appreciate the time you have taken to suggest improvements to PokerStars. Many of the features in our software were developed following suggestions received from our players.

Please let us know if you have any other ideas or questions, and thanks for playing at PokerStars!

Best Regards

mathare
17th August 2009, 10:40
I'm happy to carry on playing at PokerStars as at least one person has just set up a new account with them assuming we would be playing there. But if the majority decide to try a new site then I'm happy with Ladbrokes or Party Poker (assuming I can get on via Empire, which I should be able to as it shares the Party network). I have never liked the Betfair software and as I said before, iPoker don't seem to have the facility to set up private tables which rules out Bet365, Victor Chandler, Paddy Power and numerous others bookies that people may have accounts with. I'm trying to dedicate the majority of my play to 'Stars now so don't fancy setting up new accounts with UltimateBet, Absolute Poker or Full Tilt

Tues/Weds nights could be a go'er Pez, and maybe some Fridays too.

mathare
17th August 2009, 12:02
To be honest I'm not sure any of these sites let you change the blind levels. It's just about finding a structure (site) that suits

John
17th August 2009, 13:36
That's silly though! Why wouldn't they? To ensure people play for longer? It seems like a really obvious feature to enable change on. If I'm sitting down for a session, I'm more like to bag more tournaments that are shorter (hence more rake for them) than sit for hours on only a couple.

mathare
17th August 2009, 13:43
That's silly though! Why wouldn't they? Why would they? Private games are a minor part of their business, compared to MTTs, STTs and cash games. So why add features to the software for that rather than looking after the core business? New software features need extensive testing, documentation etc. How many options do you provide? What limits do you set on the blind levels? Should you also be able to change the actual blinds on each level as well as the length of levels to give you complete customisation? Any changes like this that you make mean they can't use the standard tournament table software with a restricted access user list, which is probably what they do at present. It's too risky with insufficient reward for them.

John
17th August 2009, 19:37
There should still be flexibility in my opinion, even if only minor. If they were more serious about players who play private tournaments (a minority, I know) they'd offer a better set of customisable features for them. Even if it's a drop down list with 3 options for blind levels - 5, 8 and 10 minutes. Plus what's risky about it? If anything it would retain a higher number of players playing private tournaments.

John
17th August 2009, 19:40
***Note to all players***

Newly created tournaments will always be posted in a new thread.

mathare
17th August 2009, 20:21
Plus what's risky about it?It's a change to the software that they wouldn't need to make otherwise and any new software features are expensive to add

i think they are doing something about it was looking for the win2win tourny last night and they had a load of test tourneys with 10minute levels.
If we move from stars i may have trouble playing to start with as my ladrokes account is locked at the minute.
