I know there is a few regulars on here who are into photography so i was wondering has anyone sold their pictures on any of the many websites around

received this though my email and have decided to give it a go

The email was from lovemoney.com entitled how to make money from hobbies

1) Sell your photos

Stock photography websites will pay both amateur and professional snappers for their shots, usually on a per-download/per-sale basis. To get started, have a browse on Alamy, Fotolia, iStockPhoto, PictureNation or 123RF.

The market is saturated, and you need to have 1000's of pics in your account to even scrape a few quid a year, plus if the site is any good, getting a pic past the vetting should be extremely hard.

The only sites to use are those that the newspapers refer to, any others are pretty much useless.

So in other words, it is very hard to even make a penny regardless of how good you think your pics are.

If anyone is thinking of doing this, please make sure that you are aware of legislation that protects the individual's right to privacy. Essentially, if there is someone in the picture who is clearly recognisable (not just blurry backgound images), then you must obtain written permission before publishing. This does not apply to 'social' network or amateur photography sites which are deemed to be for 'personal use'.
