i have only just started using this to place some of my horse racing bets
do any members have good working knowledge of this and any advise to offer ie any idea how large a wager you can place without taking your own market cheers

When you say 'taking your own market' do you mean shifting the odds?
In general, it would take serious sums of money to move Betfair SP on most UK races. In Irish racing, it would probably be a bit easier as there is less liquidity.
For the most part, the Betfair SP will not be too far off the Betfair price available near the off.

yes i did mean shifting the odds could you advise what you mean by serious sums of money (my bets are all in handicaps ) thanks

How do you do that sc? Do you manually check each price and enter it into the spreadsheet?

Yes because i am sad ha ha ha ha ha ha ha you can extract it in to a csv but its so convoluted i just type em in

when you have done this has it shown significant increase in profits and have you or any members been able to check bets they have placed at emps against betfair sp and which came out best over a period ?

Betfair prices are almost always better in my experience, most notably on the longer priced horses. Odds on horses are not always as good when you consider commission, but if you compare to traditional SP (click on results tab) you will see that most horses in every race are higher: http://form.horseracing.betfair.com/timeform
It's hard enough to get an edge in this game so any little big extra on prices makes a lot of difference in the long term!
