Npw I don't mind tracks being called off for frozen ground, not safe, but we get tracks called off when it is snowing, or a few millimetres of snow on the track.

Anyone remember the 1985 Gold Cup at Cheltenham, with Forgive'N'Forget? The race was delayed about 2hrs due to snow, but they ran it anyway. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJECEzeKylo

OK it's not knee deep, but with the jockeys and health 'n' safety these days I doubt it would have been run.

I think these days a lot more attention is paid to areas other than the track itself though, public health and safety concerning the car parks, stands, approach roads etc. That is why we are seeing some football matches postponed - it's not that the pitch is unplayable but that it is unsafe for the fans around the stadium.

Pah!!! We used to get through 20ft of snow in the early 60's to get the match even though I wasn't yet born

Back in the days when there were accidents and no "no win, no fee" companies!
