Six months ago I said it would take the next government at least twenty years to get us back to some sort of normality. Looks like I may have underestimated a bit so time to tighten the belt another notch, eh? it's going to hurt.

Why are some people having a go at Cameron for blaming the previous government? Who else's :censored: fault was it? We were already overspending before the financial disaster that hit us. :splapme
Luckily China owns most of the UK debt so we may all have to learn Mandarin :omg:

No matter who won they were never going to get anything like that long in power. I can't see this lot lasting the full term, to be honest.

Why not, Mat? You got a good reason for thinking that?

The budget is going to go a fair way to deciding how long the coalition will last.
Judging popular opinion at the moment, I think many people are feeling let down by the lib-dems, and the Tories would probably poll an overall majority if the vote was done again today.
What most people don't understand is that if you only pull in 59 seats in a 300 odd seat coalition, you really are in no position to dictate what happens. Personally, I think that the Tories have been very generous in the amount of Liberal policies they have incorporated.

Why not, Mat? You got a good reason for thinking that? Not really, it all boils down to instinct. I don't see a coalition between these two parties lasting 5 years is all. Differences in opinion will get on top of them, cracks will form and widen and the split will come. I don't think the Lib Dems and the Tories are natural bedfellows.
You think they will last out the term then Tov? And beyond?

That's up to you, Mat, and me, and anyone else who cares for this country and If they don't last out the term, who do you think will take over running the country? Lady Mandy with a "NEW" type of New Labour, not to be confused with the old type of "NEW" Labour who were nothing more than wannabe Tories. Was the B Liar, son of a lawyer, educated at Scotland's equivalent of Eton, ever a socialist? Was Wally Broon, son of a vicar, educated at Edinburgh University ever a socialist, and Darling, Alistair , (I suppose he must have had some kind of education) ever a socialist (nephew of Sir William Y. Darling, Lord Mayor of Edinburgh and Tory M.P.
True Basher Prescott, now LORD Prescott, is a socialist ( can hardly speak his native language and yet as Deputy Leader, got to sit down with King's and Presidents)
Then there is the ex-alcoholic from the Gorbals John Reid, now LORD Reid, he wasn't a socialist he was a Communist.
We may not like Cameron or want him in charge but we should all pray that either he or Clegg or somebody amongst them can clean up the mess these lying morons left us in.

B Liar,
You know I consider myself to be pretty tolerant.. but this 'B Liar' thing just gets up my nose.. talk about wearing a joke out for goodness sake.. never mind anything else at all.. it's like the dodgy stuff you pick up by mistake in a supermarket.. well past its use by date. Oh I suppose there will be folk in 20 years time saying 'I remember when we called that Blair chap B Liar, eh what' .. while chortling away into their rusks in the only old fogies home left open thanks to Tory cutbacks.
Heard it, seen it, been there, got the scars to prove it.. bit like the Tory party policies really.. Funny thing is.. now we have this lot in power, I feel my job in the NHS is probably less secure than at any time since Thatcher came to power, and that's when I started work, ooh 6 weeks after she was voted in, so I have plenty of experience of how the NHS has been used and abused under various governments. And hence my house is likely to be at risk because if I lose the amount of money it would seem I'm going to lose, I won't be able to afford my mortgage.. I trust this lot with the NHS less than I'd have trusted my young daughter on a day trip to Toys'R'Us with Gary Glitter.
Sorry, I've just come in from a brilliant night out and this overused 'joke' has pissed me off..

There are several people on this forum who don't like the Tories but don't resort to 'comedy' nicknames for them. For me it just detracts from your argument. If you can't attack their policies with any great argument then attack the people instead.
B Liar, Wally Broon, Lady Mandy - last time I checked none of these people were part of the old Labour government. If you have to use nicknames (and believe me, you don't) at least make them insightful or amusing rather than just a 'joke' that's way past its tell by date.

One of the ex Labour cabinet ministers was saying last night that "the government failed to mention that Labour managed to get the budget £10Billion below forecast, and that unemployment is lower than the US....."
...erm :doh .... lower than forecast... well that means your forecast was wrong then... as they always were :splapme .... and as for unemployment, if you use the same formula as the US ours comes out much more  .... don't they understand when you compare stats they have to be like for like

I think that is good news Keith isn't it...rejoice. :D It was going to be £165 billion and now it is £156 billion. As I understand it ( & I don't pretend to really) that is from growth and tax reciepts from the previous government, of which there won't be so many of when the tories start to lay people off. Seriously I just hope Cameron understands that it is not just 'cuts' they are implementing but affecting peoples lives, my brother and sister both work in the public sector and are concerned. Let us start looking at those that avoid tax who can afford to pay before we begin hitting ordinary people....just my opinion anyway.

You could half the public sector and it'd still work the same.... the ones left would have to work at the same rate as the private sector then :omg:

If the government want to cut costs in the public sector there are numerous ways in which things like the Department of Work & Pensions could be made more efficient, based on the number of items of mail they have sent me over the last week following a query as to where the rest of my JSA payments were. I have received 5 or 6 separate communications from them in that time so the processes in place must be inefficient. Why send all these things separately? For example, why send me a letter telling me my benefits are taxable and that I will receive a P45 separate to the P45 itself? Why not put that information in a covering letter? At least that way the letter telling me I will be sent a P45 won't arrive after the P45 :splapme:laugh
I'm sure many government departments could be streamlined, without the loss of many jobs either as I'm sure most of these things are computerised now. It's not like anyone typed out the letters I was sent, they clicked the relevant bits in their software and the letters were sent out automatically. Streamline the processes and the software, you don't need to cut down on manpower really. It may only be a small saving in the grand scheme of things but you save on paper, envelopes, ink, postage etc and it will all add up.

That would take 5 years and £20 Billion to add that one line of code Mat
