As far as I'm aware our courts have no jurisdiction over US based Twitter as they have no offices in the UK nor servers, unlike Facebook who do.

The footballer would have to go through the US courts to get the information offline and his name will be splattered even further across the globe. :doh1:

It's as though they think a super injunction gives them control over life, the Universe and everything else

I honestly couldn't give a toss who he is, I have my own life, I'm not interested in gossip, soaps, who others are ::hump.

He's only digging a deeper hole for himself now that his name is known to many Web users. What will he or other footballers who've been up to no good do if opposing fans chant songs slagging them off for their misdeeds - sue all the supporters?

What if the match is being broadcast live - will TV channels have to operate a delay to edit the crowd noise if fans do sing these songs in case telly bosses are dragged into court? The whole situation is getting beyond farcical.

This legislation needs an overhaul as it's being used by the rich to conceal tarnished reputations. They can sleep with who they like, but they shouldn't rely on deceiving their other halves by using their wealth via the courts to enforce gagging orders on what is supposed to be a free Press.

Don't want your image harmed? Behave yourself then! If stories are untrue, a libel law is in place, although the British courts are all too eager to use the big stick with that as well.

What's delicious about it all is the factor mentioned by Keith above - some websites will be outwith British jurisdiction. All that cash and a huge ego and this precious little footie player can't silence the world's media. Bless!
