That Gabrial (above) who won the day, he's over-rated & the above list needs tidying up a bit but two worthy entrants could be getting a form boost today:
North Star Boy by Lethal Force in the 3.45 @ Goodwood & Miss Work Of Art by How Sweet It Is (looking forward to this - I might just have a use for the figs, if she can continue the run of similar cases) in the first @ Carlisle, cmon!

Got a few teething problems with my 2yo's as I have been using Timeform's weight-for-age scale & after Royal Ascot realised we're going off the richter thanks to Frederick Engels (I dunno how he lost to Shumoos 4 runs back or why she hasn't won since but) -
I'm thinking of ditchhing the w-f-a scale altogether but that's going to be a fair bit of work -
God knows what Requinto was doing at 7/2 yesterday but that would have looked a good bet -
Anyway - I have added Gamilati above & think it's going to take something a bit special to take the 1,000 Guineas from Godolphin next year?
I will try & do an more complete update soon.....

& that's it! 'Just a sprinter' says Mord:
DABIRSIM SHOULD TAKE MIDDLE PARK
DABIRSIM (38/114) outclassed his rivals in the Prix Morny. He was always moving comfortably and quickened away rapidly when asked to do so in the final furlong or so.
Dabirisim from the first crop of Japanese Champion Miler Hot Trick out of a dam who placed in six and six and a half furlong maidens on dirt from six starts in America. She was by a Breeders Cup Mile winner out of an Italian Oaks winner and I dare say would have stayed further had she continued racing. So on pedigree you'd expect him to last a mile.
However Dabirisim is a very mature, good-bodied, muscular sort with a fast ground action that has the build of a sprinter from the close up freeze frame of him at the finish I saw on the video. In addition he moves so freely and coped so well with a fast pace that I'm inclined to go with what his physique suggests and say he's going to be best over sprint trips.
This is clearly an unusually good two year old over six furlongs who is probably capable of running even faster. Most likely there isn't going to be a horse of his age capable of beating him on fast ground over six furlongs. So he should follow up this win by taking the Middle Park. http://www.nickmordin.com/france.htm

Here's a good race - like Astrology but jockey booking suggests otherwise, hate to see him lose so soon....
3rd here on only 2nd start may not be so bad as Nick Mordin says of the winner:
"DRAGON PULSE MAY WELL BE CHAMPION 2YO
DRAGON PULSE (38/114) was awfully impressive when winning the Futurity Stakes at the Curragh. His jockey Fran Berry rode him with tremendous confidence, allowing him to lob along in last place until very late in proceedings. He was careful to ensure he had him held in tight behind other runners till approaching the furlong pole. From there he only had to ride him out to get to the leader within about seventy five yards and he was a length clear five strides after that. Berry gave him a couple of cracks of the whip as he was extending his lead but it wasn't necessary. The horse won full of running and will obviously have no problems going longer than the seven furlongs of the race.
http://www.nickmordin.com/ireland.htm
The pace was strong throughout and Dragon Pulse clocked a time 1.4 seconds faster than the other 7f race on the card. He looked like a proper Group 1 horse and certainly ran fast enough for one.

Nice read Godspot thanks mate. Speed figures are an excellent tool for identify the best two-year-olds as soon as they make their debuts. Any two-years-old that clocks a Topspeed figure of 80 or more first time out is very likely to prove to be at least of Listed class and a significant proportion of them will be Group class. Very few horses are able to overcome their lack of experience to run so quickly on their debuts and those that do are worth monitoring closly. We have devised six rules to highlight debutants that are likely to make up into Group One winners and We will back those of them that We consider to be exeptional, for either the Derby or the Oaks, ante-post.
THE RULES ARE AS FOLLOWS :
1. The horse must record a Topspeed figure of 80 or more its debut.
2. The horse must win on its debut.
3. Its debut must come in July or later.
4. Its debut must be over seven furlong or further.
5. Its debut must be in a Class 4 race or higher.
6. The debut race must have been in Great Britain or Ireland.
Rules three and four reflect the fact that horses that debut before July over sprint distances are very unlikely to develop into contenders for the Classics in June the following year.

I like the 80 bit, that's my cut-off point for 2yo's - but I would say, must win within 2 starts - you'd miss the likes of Sea The Stars, 4th on his debut & Blue Bunting, 2nd but then broke juvenile course record over 8f at Doncaster on 2nd start.

Another couple of additions (& another winner in Requinto) to the master list above today - can't really see why that Fallen For You was such a short price & Lyric Of Light so long, I had the latter 6lb better rated & the stable seems to have a lot of useful 2yo fillies but they both earned more than 110 in the May Hill Stakes.
Does seem to be a shortage of colts amongst the top rank so far - hopefully we'll get some from the National Stakes at the Curragh tomorrow?

If u see above, NMQ, next to a 2yo, that means, a Nick Mordin System Qualifier of a system rather like yours - 'Follow any 2yo at 3 who wins a 7f Mdn of more than 9 runners at a Grade One track within it's first two starts.'
It has it's good years & bad - I try & note all qualifiers...
To simplify things between two horses of similar figs - I would usually opt for the most lightly raced - good example of that would be Workforce 2010 Derby, the least ran with the biggest figures.
But there are always spanners - take for instance, Born To Sea @ the Curragh yesterday, 6f Listed race first time out!
& today, Bible Belt, one of the most rapid improving 3yo's, beaten on debut but then won 7f at Roscommon
'Er, one for your notebook - checkout the running of Wading in the maiden prior to Born To Sea's race, I'll be very surprised if she doesn't win something better than a maiden before long -

9/1 winner Manieree @ the Curragh today was a last year qualifier on that system but
I been reading this book (thanks to Keith & the Joint Effort comp), Well Handicapped Horses by John Gibby & he puts forth a little
system for 2yo's that has proved profitable in the past - look for horses which,
'made their debut after Royal Ascot & won a Pattern Class (Listed or Group race) within 3 starts @ 8f or further.'

Betting is based on cold hard statistical facts and figures. Bookmakers know that too and are likely to account for that fact in future odds offered. A further common argument against systems is that they can suffer from over betting or odds available for selections may drop over time. Systems can maintain strike rate but start to lose due to odds shortening as selections tend to focus on specialised areas of form.

Today's Curragh winner (& 'time of the meet' added to master list above!), Coral Wave, a qualifier on that....
Always nice to have some kind of corroboration, Mr Mordin on the above:
"CORAL WAVE LOOKS TOP CLASS
CORAL WAVE (37/111) set an ordinary pace then picked up really well to get all her rivals in trouble when winning the Listed Flame Of Tara Stakes at the Curragh. When I adjust her rating to take account of the sectional times it indicates this was a Group 1 class performance.
Clearly Coral Wave improved a good deal for the switch to soft ground in this race. She's much better on this sort of surface according to trainer Paddy Prendergast. If she gets her ground in the Weld Park Stakes next time she should be able to follow up this win.
Judged by her physique I'd tag Coral Wave as a miler. But she was moving so strongly at the finish here that there must be a good chance she'll go longer."

thanks to Frederick Engels (I dunno how he lost to Shumoos 4 runs back or why she hasn't won since but) - .
We need faster than 'good' according to Mord's & it'll be interesting if she goes to the Breeders' Cup:
http://www.nickmordin.com/uk.htm
"SHUMOOS PROBABLY NEEDS FAST GROUND
I gave SHUMOOS (33) a big Group 1 rating for her debut win. And I don't think this was in error as the four and a half length runner up Frederick Engels franked the form by winning his next three starts - including at Royal Ascot and in the Group 2 July Stakes.
This being so, I've been scratching my head over why Shumoos has failed to run anything like as fast in her four subsequent starts.
Following her win in the Group3 Sirenia Stakes on Kempton's Polytrack last weekend I think the answer must be that Shumoos needs a fast surface. Her debut win was on good to firm ground and her three subsequent turf outings were on good or slower, with much her worst effort coming the only time she encountered a surface slower than good.
Polytrack has more cushion than turf but it actually produces less slippage and holds a horse's hooves in place on the surface more than even firm turf. It also has some similarities to dirt - the surface that Shumoos is really bred for.
Shumoos produced a storming finish to get up on the line at Kempton. She still didn't run anything like as fast as she did on her debut. But I think the fact that the runner up Vocational was able to slow things down in the lead and then accelerate up the straight played against Shumoos.
Having previously thought she was a five furlong speedball I have to say I now think Shumoos will be better suited by longer than the six furlongs of this race. That's what her pedigree and physique suggest to me, and her connections clearly think the same way.
Even so if she gets good to firm or faster ground for her next objective, the Cheveley Park, I'd be inclined to bet her despite the fact it's only six furlongs.
Seeing how mature she is and how likely she is to be suited to dirt and longer trips I'd be skipping the Cheveley Park and sending Shumoos over to America to prepare for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. I reckon she'd be a slam dunk to win a Grade stakes over a longer distance on dirt and that would stand her in good stead for the big race."

Good but she only ran to the same mark of 114 that I gave her last time - today she was upstaged by David Livingston [who should have been listed above but his figure achieved in defeat?] who improved from 119 behind Power last time in the National Stakes to a new 2yo best of the season so far, even above Lyric Of Light's 129 t'other day to 131....

Well, I'm glad the flat season is over, as the last two meetings at Leopardstown have put me off it altogether. The only thing worse than being proved wrong is realising that those figures could be more accurate than I thought (which, looking at the Going Allowance used, I don't see how they can) which makes, imho, the whole game farcical. I really don't see how a Gr3 race, if as it says in the 'in-running comments' was 'run at a strong pace' comes out with a 54 ? ? ?

Was beginning to think I had over-done it a bit with that 129 about Lyric Of Light until Samitar's win in the Irish Guineas gave the form a boost & could be getting another tomorrow, what with 6th placed Devotion being 3rd top rated on my figs in the Oaks [40/1 available] & Richard Hughes looking a bit of a significant jockey booking & later in the Listed race Fallen For You a clear top rated after finishing 5th in the same race.
