Justice Secretary Ken Clarke's plans to offer a 50% sentence discount for an early guilty plea in England and Wales are set to be shelved, the BBC understands.

What a ridiculous idea. So, commit a crime but if you own up to it quickly you can have your sentence halved? Maybe if the sentencing was more severe to act as a deterrent then the prisons wouldn't be so crowded.
Or here's an idea, instead of spending millions on meetings and think tanks about the overcrowding problem spend it on building more ::swear prisons!

We can't...we have no money so in Tory terms, this means go against every principal you have and let them out early...it is laughable. At least Michael Howard will be happy tonight if no one else.:biggrin:

Actually the government were only going to change it to 50% from 40% which it has been for the last 5-6 years.
