One of the reasons why I stopped supporting the Labour Party is that it was hijacked by middle class PC twerps who know as much about the average working man's concerns as the most out of touch Tory toff.
These Notting Hill would-be radicals live in a bubble and dismiss anyone who disagrees with them as 'bigots'. That gives a clear indication of their mentality and is why a large number of people don't vote.
If anyone is looking at matters with a closed mind, it is they. Not that the left of the party is any better, offering a Ken Livingstone approach to social issues and economic policies which proved disastrous in the 1970s.
The problem with politics is that it attracts far too many people who have a fixed (minority) view on a whole range of policy areas and they're not the least interested in listening to the concerns of voters, unless they think their seat at Westminster is in jeopardy.
Although the democratic process is degraded when a huge slice of the electorate doesn't vote, it's probably the only way the message will get through to MPs that their views often do not represent that of most of those who voted them into power.
